The National Treasurer of the \u201cNew\u201d Peoples Democratic Party, PD\u201dP, Tanko Gwamna, resigned his position on Sunday due to the pressure mounted on him by the Presidency to do so, the party spokesman, Chukwuemeka Eze, said.<\/p>\n
Mr Gwamna resigned barely one week after he was appointed into the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Kawu Baraje-led New PDP, alongside others. He was named the treasurer last Monday September 9.<\/p>\n
He announced his resignation via a statement in which he also pledged his loyalty to the National Chairman of the PDP, Bamanga Tukur.<\/p>\n
According to him, he arrived at the decision after a careful study of the events in the polity and a deep sober reflection of the consequences of the outcome of the crisis on the ruling party.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a lover of democracy, I am of the belief that the current impasse will not augur well for the unity, peace, progress and prosperity of our great party in particular, and the country in general,\u201d Mr Gwamna said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI, therefore, enjoin all PDP faithful wherever they may be to unite and ensure the amicable resolution of the current impasse. Our desire is for the PDP to continue to lead while others follow.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs such, we must eschew all vices capable of unnecessarily heating up the polity. I pledge my loyalty to Bamanga Tukur\u2019s leadership while calling on all party faithful to do same.\u201d<\/p>\n
But Mr Eze, told PREMIUM TIMES in a text message on Sunday night that Mr Gwamna resigned because of the contract the Presidency had promised him.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, I just confirmed that the Presidency forced the man to resign because of (a) contract they want to issue out to him,\u201d the \u201cNew\u201d PDP spokesman in the text message.<\/p>\n
