South-South and South-East Governors have urged\u00a0 the Academic Staff Union of Universities to call off their on-going industrial action in the interest of the Nigerian students and the nation.<\/p>\n
The Governors who made this call yesterday [29-9-13] at the end of the South-South\/South-East Governors\u2019 Forum meeting in Enugu opined that the prolonged industrial action\u00a0 was affecting the development of the nation\u2019s youths and the educational system and called for the resumption of academic activities while dialogue on contentious issues among all parties continue.<\/p>\n
Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting, Governor Liyel Imoke, flanked by Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan, Delta, Godswill Akpabio, Akwa-Ibom, Peter Obi, Anambra, Martins Elechi, Ebonyi, Theodore Orji, Abia, Sullivan Chima, Enugu and John Gborubigha,Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State appealed to ASUU to put the interest of the nation and the youths ahead of other interests in their dialogue with government.<\/p>\n
While commending the security agencies\u00a0 on its efforts to tackle the various security challenges in the country, The Governors called for continuing dialogue to resolve the various national issues to ensure the corporate existence of the country. They called for support for President Jonathan and urged him not to be distracted by emerging issues.<\/p>\n
On the 2015 Presidency, The Governors said \u201cthat only\u00a0 the nigerian electorates have theright to decide who will lead the country according to democratic tenets\u201d warning that \u201c the power of the electorates should not be usurped by any person or group\u201d<\/p>\n
The Governors also resolved to strengthen economic ties pursue the execution of projects\u00a0 already identified for the common good of their states and the zones.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
