The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told the Alhaji Abubakar Kawu\u00a0Baraje led\u00a0splinter group, to henceforth seize from carrying out its activities with\u00a0the name,\u00a0flag, logo of the PDP.<\/p>\n
The PDP who also branded any unauthorised use of its identity as an act of\u00a0impostors\u00a0threatened to criminalise such act.<\/p>\n
The party spokesman, Oliseh Metuh noted this in a statement heralding has the\u00a0judgement of the Federal High Court upholding the leadership of PDP under the\u00a0National chairmanship of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.<\/p>\n
The statement which described the ruling of the court in this regard is\u00a0absolutely\u00a0clear, direct and unambiguous said the PDP has only one duly elected National\u00a0Executive Committee under the National Chairmanship of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.<\/p>\n
“We wish therefore to state with all emphasis that any group of persons\u00a0parading\u00a0themselves as leaders of this organ of our party are impostors and must be\u00a0treated\u00a0as criminals by all and sundry.<\/p>\n
“Henceforth, the leadership of the PDP will no longer tolerate or condone any\u00a0meeting, utterances, press statements and\/or activities whatsoever under\u00a0the name,\u00a0flag and colour of the PDP by any unauthorized person or group(s) under\u00a0any guise.<\/p>\n
“As a law abiding party, the PDP remained calm in the face of the unwarranted\u00a0attacks of the last few months. Our leaders chose the path of caution and\u00a0decorum\u00a0but our reconciliatory moves and offer of olive branch were treated with\u00a0the highest\u00a0disdain and viewed as signs of weakness.<\/p>\n
“The National Working Committee has therefore directed that the name,\u00a0colour, flag\u00a0and the provisions of constitution of our party must be held sacrosanct by\u00a0our\u00a0members. The PDP has adequate internal mechanism for resolution of\u00a0disagreements and\u00a0members are advised to express their grievances through such.<\/p>\n
“We thank all members who kept faith and remained loyal to the\u00a0constitution of the\u00a0party through this trying time. Our party remains one big family and the\u00a0preeminent\u00a0party, commanding true and genuine followership among Nigerians across the\u00a0country.<\/p>\n
“The challenges of the last few months instead of detracting us have\u00a0indeed better\u00a0positioned our party to continue to win elections at all levels in our\u00a0country.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, some elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara\u00a0State has\u00a0called on the Alhaji Bamanga Tukur led PDP to immediately sanction the\u00a0proponents of\u00a0new PDP in Kwara State.<\/p>\n
The elders of the state party stated this while paying a solidarity visit\u00a0to the\u00a0national working committee of the PDP on Friday in Abuja. They cautioned that\u00a0further delay in sanctioning those promoting the splinter PDP would create an\u00a0unfavorable environment in the state party.<\/p>\n
The former governor of the Kwara state, Sen. Bukola Saraki, the incumbent\u00a0governor,\u00a0Abdulfatah Ahmed and the chairman of the new PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu\u00a0Baraje, have\u00a0been behind the splinter group in the state.<\/p>\n
Calling on the PDP to urgently instill discipline in the state party, the\u00a0leader of\u00a0the delegation and chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) Prof.\u00a0Abdulraheem Oba said “the new PDP as far as we can recognise in Kwara, is\u00a0a party\u00a0that has been constituted by proclamation and it is unknown to any\u00a0democratic ideas\u00a0or principles.<\/p>\n
“If the people promoting that party are doing so on the excuse that they\u00a0are trying\u00a0to entrench democracy within the parent party, that is the wrong way to go.<\/p>\n
“We on this delegation urge you Mr Chairman that the time is now not\u00a0tomorrow, that\u00a0you must put on ground your strong foot of discipline to restore sanity in\u00a0Kwara\u00a0PDP.\u2019\u2019 He said.<\/p>\n
Speaking earlier, Suliaman Alada who said the delegation came to reaffirm\u00a0their\u00a0solidarity to president Goodluck Jonathan and the Bamanga Tukur delegation\u00a0is ready\u00a0to ensure that Kwara remains under the mainstream PDP.<\/p>\n
He said “with this team, the party should have faith in us and pray for\u00a0us. We will\u00a0make certain that those who believe Kwara State will not move forward\u00a0without them,\u00a0God will put such people to shame.<\/p>\n
“This is the time for action to stand up and prove our worth, not to\u00a0cringe but be\u00a0in the fore front for the good of Nigerians and generations to come. We\u00a0are not\u00a0against anybody staying in the party but there cannot be two masters in\u00a0one ship” he\u00a0said.<\/p>\n
In his response, the national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, noted that\u00a0there is no\u00a0duplicate of the PDP in the country. He said the party under his\u00a0leadership would\u00a0continue to abide by fairness, equity and justice.<\/p>\n
He described the delegates as the heavy weights in the political firmament\u00a0of the\u00a0state, said he has worked with them and know their capacity.<\/p>\n
The national chairman further assured that “in PDP there are no\u00a0impositions but\u00a0consensus, no selection but election. That is what our party believe in.\u00a0We will\u00a0make sure the party does the right thing.<\/p>\n
“We are all owners of this party. PDP has no duplicate. It is one and our\u00a0vote is\u00a0one” he said.<\/p>\n
