Yola \u2013 The Governor of Niger, Alhaji Babangida Aliyu, on Saturday said\u00a0the North is ready for the proposed National Conference.<\/p>\n
Aliyu made the declaration in Yola during the conferment of the\u00a0traditional title of Talban Adamawa to Mr Daniel Mustapha, held at the\u00a0palace of the Lamido Adamawa, Dr Barkindo Mustapha.<\/p>\n
The governor, who is also the Chairman, Northern Governors Forum, said the\u00a0region was prepared to participate in the conference without any fear.\u00a0\u201cThe North is ready for the conference, no matter what happen, we will\u00a0come up better, more developed and indeed more united.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I believe what will come out from the conference is for the advantage\u00a0of Nigeria and its unity.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no doubting the fact that all parts of Nigeria need unity,\u201d he\u00a0said.<\/p>\n
Aliyu also defended the decision of the seven PDP governors to challenge\u00a0the national leadership of the party, saying it was in Nigeria\u2019s best\u00a0interest.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany people in the country did not understand why we came out to\u00a0challenge the leadership style of the Bamanga Tukur-led National Working\u00a0Committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll we are saying is that we wanted democracy, because whatever happens\u00a0in PDP affect Nigeria and Nigerians.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe reason for our action was that we were looking for true democracy,\u00a0justice, equity and fairness in our great party, the PDP.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier, the Lamido, had while conferring the title on Mustapha, appealed\u00a0to Nigerian leaders to be more committed to the unity and development of\u00a0the country.<\/p>\n
