Tax Payers Association of Nigeria (TAPAN) has urged the Federal Government to urgently fix the economic malaise called multiple taxation.<\/p>\n
TAPAN which\u00a0 commended the Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for her position on Nigeria Multiple Taxation and consequences on the economy, also decried the cumbersome nature of tax filling processes faced by tax payers.<\/p>\n
In a statement in Abuja signed by the Chairman, BOT, Comrade Valentine\u00a0 Nzewkwe and President of the Association, Barrister Philip Ilokhulo, the TAPAN stated that unless the Minister\u2019s advice are heeded, the trend could have adverse effects on business and the economy.<\/p>\n
TAPAN which will address the nation on Oct. 27 on burning National issues said the association was concerned about multiple taxation and the use of tax payers fund in delivering the dividend of democracy.<\/p>\n
The TAPAN while commending the President for the giant strides in the Agriculture, Works and Transport Sectors, wondered why some States would have 97 different taxes, levies and charges imposed on business.<\/p>\n
According to the Association, \u201cthe Minister is right; this could kill business and have adverse effect on tax payers\u201d.<\/p>\n
TAPAN urged the Government to heed the advice of MAN and review the various taxes and levies on Nigerians business, to ensure effective diversification of the economy and encourage competition.<\/p>\n
The TAPAN then called on the Federal Government and tax authorities to ensure there is transparency in the tax regime, make procedure of payment easier for tax payers.<\/p>\n
