Stanbic IBTC Bank PLC has been dragged to the Owerri Judicial High Court over disservice, unprofessionalism and mismanagement of client\u2019s\u00a0transactional fund.<\/p>\n
In a suit number: HOW\/626\/2011, the claimant whose name is yet to be\u00a0disclosed by the Owerri Judicial Division is said to have sued the bank\u00a0over a transaction that held between the month of February 2011, where he
\nlost the huge sum of $5,640,232 (Five million, six hundred and forty\u00a0thousand, two hundred and thirty two dollars).<\/p>\n
According to our reliable source, the client who in his statement of claim\u00a0submitted to the honourable court in Owerri, had in the same month of\u00a0February, 2011 contacted the customer care of Stanbic IBTC bank over fund
\ntransfer from a business transaction with his client, whom the bank\u00a0assured him of safe transfer without hiccups.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen the said amount was to be transferred, the bank gave an unequivocal\u00a0assurance that our claimant should go ahead and instruct his business\u00a0associate to transfer the first tranche of the entire being;47,232 US
\ndollars which the claimant did. It was the advice of the bank to him that\u00a0led to the transfer, and there was never a time they told the claimant in\u00a0their confirmation letter that the account to which the money will be
\ntransferred has been closed.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter the fund had been transferred under the instruction of the bank, it\u00a0could be disclosed that the bank gave another call for reopening of the\u00a0clients closed account (which they admitted was done in error at the
\nbranch of domicile) and the call was said to be coming when the client had\u00a0asked to know the financial status of his account, by then he had been\u00a0lured to transfer the fund,\u201d our source averred.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, our source hinted that for a new generational bank like\u00a0Stanbic IBTC PLC to close a client\u2019s domiciliary account, having up to\u00a0$40,000 without his consent or by any criminal involvement is uncalled\u00a0for, unconscionable, unprofessional and a turn off to prospective\u00a0customers.<\/p>\n
Adding that the said unauthorized closure of account amounts to\u00a0conversion, (having admitted to have moved the client deposit into their\u00a0Banks ledger account) and huge damages to the clients corporate image\u00a0before his partners. Our source further stressed that the Bank had since\u00a0fired their staff (s) whose negligence and unprofessional conduct caused\u00a0the claimant to loose his source livelihood.<\/p>\n
