Katsina State Government has distributed foodstuff and clothes to students of 70 selected \u2018Almajiri\u2019 Quranic Schools in the state.<\/p>\n
Gov. Ibrahim Shema said this on Friday at Daura at the launch of the distribution of the materials to some of the schools in Daura Senatorial zone.<\/p>\n
He said the government had selected two schools in each of 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and four in the Katsina metropolis for a pilot scheme of six months.<\/p>\n
Shema said that under the programme, the state government would provide three meals and uniforms to the students and train them on various vocational skills to make them self-reliant.<\/p>\n
He added that government would provide monthly allowance to their teachers to boost their morale.<\/p>\n
The governor explained that the programme was part of the administration\u2019s efforts to improve the living condition of its people and check street begging, particularly among students of such schools.<\/p>\n
Shema urged all stakeholders to intensify efforts toward supporting the programme, saying that it would also curtail social vices among the youth.<\/p>\n
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on ‘Almajirai’ Affairs, Alhaji Lawal Gambarawa, said that there were 8,365 ‘Almajiri’ Quranic Schools across the state.<\/p>\n
Gambarawa said that state had a total of 22,572 ‘Almajiri’ Quranic School teachers with 460,212 students across the 34 LGAs areas of the state.<\/p>\n
