The Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, supported by United Bank
\nfor Africa (UBA) Plc, on Wednesday, unveiled an electronic anti-crime
\ncampaign jingle to air on national radio stations aimed at raising the
\nawareness of Nigerians on how to tackle insecurity in the country.<\/p>\n
The campaign will discourage young Nigerians from engaging in crime and
\nseek\u00a0 public support and participation in tackling insecurity in Nigeria.
\nThe anti-crime sensitization campaign is part of the\u00a0 IGP\u2019s\u00a0 innovative
\neffort to address the security challenges of terrorism, insurgency,
\nkidnapping, cultism, rape as well as human and drug trafficking currently
\nfacing the nation.\u00a0 The campaign\u00a0 will also help in rebranding the nation
\nand generally\u00a0 educate Nigerians on how to avoid falling victim of
\ncriminal activities.<\/p>\n
The radio jingles, which come in both standard English and Pidgin English
\nversion, is targeted at Nigerians from all walks of life, particularly
\nthose in the rural areas who may not have quick access to other means of
\ncommunication. The jingles are expected to run simultaneously in several
\nradio stations across the nation.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony which took place at the Force
\nHeadquarters, Abuja, Group Managing Director, UBA Plc, Mr. Phillips
\nOduoza, expressed the bank\u2019s delight in partnering\u00a0 with the Nigeria
\nPolice on the war against crime and criminality, noting that the
\nanti-crime campaign would\u00a0 help reduce criminal activities in the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a wonderful thing to do for Nigeria and we need to support the
\nIGP and Nigeria Police in particular in what they are doing to reduce
\ncrime in the country. It is our belief in UBA that business would thrive
\nwhen there is peace and security in the country. This initiative will help
\nimprove national security for every Nigerian\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n
Oduoza called on civil society organizations\u00a0 and the general public to
\npartner with the Nigeria Police to fight crime stressing\u00a0 that creating a
\nsecured environment is the job of everyone, and should not be left to\u00a0 the
\nNigeria Police only.<\/p>\n
While commending UBA for collaborating with the Police to launch
\nsensitization campaign in the media, the IGP also called on other private
\nand corporate bodies to, as a matter of corporate social responsibility,
\npartner with the Police to\u00a0 provide a safe and secured environment for
\neconomic and business activities to thrive.<\/p>\n
