The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has written to the
\nIndependent National Electoral Commission (INEC) notifying it of the
\nsuspension of Alhaji Abubakar Kawu\u00a0 Baraje, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, Prince
\nOlagunsoye Oyinlola and Amb. Ibrahim Kazaure from the Party.<\/p>\n
The National Working Committee, in a letter dated November 12, 2013 and
\nsigned by the National Chairman, Alhaji Dr. Bamanga Tukur, informed INEC
\nof the suspension of the above mentioned individuals\u00a0 on Monday, November
\n11, 2013 for engaging in anti-party activities in violation of the
\nprovisions of the PDP Constitution.<\/p>\n
The letter said “The decision of the NWC was in exercise of its powers
\nunder section 57 (3) of the PDP constitution, 2012 (as amended) and in the
\noverall interest of the Party and its members.<\/p>\n
The Tukur-led PDP had on Monday suspended Oyinlola and others.<\/p>\n
But Oyinlola in a clear disregard of the suspension, wrote to both the
\nmainstream PDP and INEC notifying them of his readiness to assume office.<\/p>\n
In his letter to the PDP Oyinlola said “As you are very well aware, the
\nCourt of Appeal by its judgment delivered on Wednesday November 6. 2013
\nreinstated me as National Secretary of the party. This followed the
\nnullification of the judgment of the federal High court Abuja presided
\nover by Justice Abdul Kafarati by the court of Appeal, Abuja which is a
\nsuperior court of competent jurisdiction which also ruled that I was
\nwrongfully removed from office as PDP National Secretary.<\/p>\n
“You are requested to kindly note this development for immediate
\ncompliance by the PDP and all its organs, particularly the National
\nchairman and members of the National Working Committee of our great party.
\nKindly note that in compliance with the constitution of the PDP, I am
\nexpected to sign all official correspondences emanating from the PDP
\nnational secretariat as the Chief Adminstrative and Accounting Officer of
\nthe PDP.<\/p>\n
“Please take this as an instruction to do all the needful for compliance
\nwith the Appeal Court Order which is attached herewith, please.”<\/p>\n
In his letter to INEC titled “NOTIFICATION OF RE-INSTATEMENT AS NATIONAL
\nSECRETARY OF THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY”, Oyinlola said “as you may be
\naware, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Judicial Division has nullified the
\nJanuary 11, 2013 judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja which removed
\nme from office as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party
\n(PDP).<\/p>\n
“The directive of the court was implemented by the Independent National
\nElectoral Commission, INEC, which consequently struck out my name off its
\nregister and other documents, as the National Secretary of the PDP.<\/p>\n
“Following the nullification of the above stated judgement of the Federal
\nHigh Court, Abuja presided over by Justice Abdul Kafarati by the Court of
\nAppeal, Abuja, which is a superior court of competent jurisdiction, which
\nalso ruled that I was wrongfully removed from office as PDP National
\nSecretary, this correspondence serves to inform you of my decision to
\ncontinue to perform my duties as the validly elected National Secretary of
\nthe Peoples Democratic Party.<\/p>\n
“Your records would reveal that I was validly elected into office as
\nNational Secretary at the national convention of PDP held on Saturday
\nMarch 24, 2012.<\/p>\n
“You are requested to kindly note this development and reflect it
\naccordingly in your records, in compliance with the court judgement
\ndelivered on Wednesday November 06, 2013.<\/p>\n
“A copy of the judgement is attached for your attention and further
\nnecessary action, please. Kindly note that in compliance with the
\nconstitution of the PDP, I am expected to sign all official
\ncorrespondences emanating from the PDP national secretariat, to the
\nIndependent National Electoral Commission, in my capacity as the National
\nSecretary of the Peoples Democratic Party.<\/p>\n
