{"id":19429,"date":"2013-11-14T22:04:36","date_gmt":"2013-11-14T21:04:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=19429"},"modified":"2013-11-14T22:04:36","modified_gmt":"2013-11-14T21:04:36","slug":"lagos-assembly-to-asuu-end-strike-in-honour-of-iyayi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/lagos-assembly-to-asuu-end-strike-in-honour-of-iyayi\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos Assembly To ASUU: End Strike In Honour Of Iyayi."},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"font-size: 11px; color: #000000; margin: 0px  0px  5px; padding: 0px; word-break: break-word; word-wrap: break-word; font-weight: normal; line-height: 12.727272033691406px;\"><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.38;\"><span>The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday appealed to university lecturers to end their strike in honour of their late colleague, Dr. Festus Iyayi.<\/p>\n<p>The House made the appeal in a statement issued in Lagos.<span style=\"display: inline;\"><\/p>\n<p>The statement was signed by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, Security and Publicity, Mr. Segun Olulade.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Iyayi, a former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), died on Wednesday in a road accident on the Okene-Lokoja Road.<\/p>\n<p>He was on his way to Kano for a National Executive Council meeting of ASUU scheduled for Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>ASUU has since postponed the meeting due to the tragic event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince Iyayi was on a mission to end the strike, the union should consider ending the strike in honour of the late comrade,\u201d the House said.<\/p>\n<p>It appealed to drivers to avoid recklessness to reduce road accidents, regretting that accidents on the Okene-Lokoja Road had claimed many lives.<\/p>\n<p>The legislature expressed sympathy with the deceased\u2019s family and the academic community.<\/p>\n<p>NAN reports that ASUU embarked on an indefinite strike on July 1 to protest Federal Government\u2019s non-implementation of an agreement it entered into with the union in 2009.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday appealed to university lecturers to end their strike in honour of their late colleague, Dr. Festus Iyayi.
