Board members of the Federal Medical Center, FMC, Umuahia are up in arms against the management over a N500 Million Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an Indian Charity Organization.<\/p>\n
Board members claimed they did not approve the N500 Million deal.<\/p>\n
Pointblanknews.com gathered that the management of FMC, Umuahia had earlier this year signed agreement with The Madras Medical Mission (MMM), a charity organization based in Mogappair, Chennai, India.<\/p>\n
The agreement which was said to cost FMC, Umuahia over N500m was that MMM would help the hospital set up medical facilities and the required technology in some specialties.<\/p>\n
According to the agreement, the organization would also train doctors, nurses and other subsidiary staff who would handle the medical facilities when established.<\/p>\n
However, some of the Board members of FMC, Umuahia are crying foul that the MoU did not follow laid down procedure as the Board did not approve of it which they said was highly made against the interest of the hospital.<\/p>\n
A Board member who pleaded anonymity said, \u201capart from the bogus project known as Madras Medical centre Project which was highly made against the hospital, the Medical Director has resolved to go to India with about 10 members of staff of the hospital for the purposes of signing the agreement without the approval of the Board.\u201d<\/p>\n
He vowed that the Board would not watch idly as the management run the hospital as if it was a personal estate and appealed to the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu to call the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Abali Chukwu to order.<\/p>\n
Efforts to speak to Chukwu proved abortive as he did not respond to calls to him. Chairman of the Board, Dr. Wakil Chibok could also not be reached for comments as the time of filing this report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
