resident Goodluck Jonathan came down hard on Governor Sule Lamido of\u00a0Jigawa state, describing his claim that he once reported that a serving\u00a0Minister collected $250 Million bribe as a “thoughtless peddling of arrant\u00a0falsehood.”<\/p>\n
Lamido’s two sons are currently undergoing interrogation with the Economic\u00a0and Financial Crimes, EFCC for an alleged laundering of N11 Billion\u00a0belonging to Local Governments.<\/p>\n
The Jigawa Governor had in a recent radio interview alleged that he once\u00a0informed President Jonathan that a serving minister had collected a $250\u00a0Million bribe and the President did nothing<\/p>\n
In a statement signed by Presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, the\u00a0President said the allegations from Governor Lamido are without any\u00a0foundation in fact or reality “because no such communication has ever\u00a0taken place.”<\/p>\n
The statement reads:<\/p>\n
“We have noted with much regret, the grossly irresponsible, false and\u00a0mischievous claim by the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido that\u00a0President Goodluck Jonathan has refused to act on information that a\u00a0serving minister recently collected a bribe of $250 million from an oil company.<\/p>\n
“The Presidency views the patently bogus allegation reportedly made by the\u00a0Governor in a radio interview yesterday as an unacceptable and callous\u00a0attempt to unjustly impugn the integrity of President Jonathan and cast\u00a0aspersions on the seriousness of his Administration\u2019s efforts to curb\u00a0corruption.<\/p>\n
“The allegation and the claim by Alhaji Lamido that he informed President\u00a0Jonathan of the acceptance of the huge bribe by an unnamed minister is\u00a0absolutely without any foundation in fact or reality because no such\u00a0communication has ever taken place between them.<\/p>\n
“We abhor Governor Lamido\u2019s descent to the unscrupulous, reckless and\u00a0thoughtless peddling of arrant falsehood in a puerile effort to score\u00a0cheap political points against President Jonathan for personal and\u00a0sectional political gains.<\/p>\n
“If, as he claims, Alhaji Lamido has credible information about a minister\u00a0receiving the said amount as bribe, he should publicly name the minister\u00a0involved without delay and provide evidence to support his allegation.<\/p>\n
“In the event that he is unable to do so, he should be prepared to offer\u00a0an unreserved apology to the President and Nigerians for his unwarranted\u00a0and unjust effort to denigrate, disparage and malign the President and the\u00a0Federal Government.<\/p>\n
“While the Jonathan Presidency will continue to make corrupt public\u00a0officials answerable for their actions, it will not succumb to harassment\u00a0and blackmail by self-seeking politicians jostling for personal\u00a0advantage.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
