Citizens of Jigawa state in the North-western Nigeria under the auspices
\nof Jigawa Professionals have shown their anger over the case of alleged
\nmoney laundering and misappropriation of state funds by Governor Sule
\nLamido and his sons as they call for his immediate resignation or
\nimpeachment by the state House of Assembly.<\/p>\n
In a statement signed by Mallam Sani Zorro and Alhaji Ishaq Hadejia, made
\navailable to Pointlanknews.com, Monday after noon, they insisted that the
\nallegations made against the Lamidos\u00a0 by the Department of State Services
\n(DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) remain
\ndamaging enough to compel Governor Lamido to honourable resign or face
\nimpeachment by the State House of Assembly.<\/p>\n
Their demands include, \u201cimmediate, unconditional resignation of Governor
\nSule Lamido of Jigawa state to pave way for comprehensive and unhindered
\ninvestigations into the allegations, and also provide the governor with
\nthe opportunity to clear himself of the allegations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mallam Sani Zoro, former national president of the Nigeria Union of
\nJournalists, [NUJ] and Alhaji Ishaq Hadejia expressed great concern over
\nthe magnitude of the allegations and the gravity of the charges made
\nagainst them by both EFCC and the DSS.<\/p>\n
Following the allegations, the group demanded for the immediate
\nresignation of Sule Lamido as governor of Jigawa state, to pave way for
\ncomprehensive and unhindered investigations into the allegations, and also
\nprovide the governor with the opportunity to clear himself of the
\nallegations leveled against his two sons.<\/p>\n
The statement further noted that \u201cin the alternative, all members of
\nJigawa state House of Assembly should cooperate to facilitate the
\ngovernor\u2019s immediate impeachment to salvage tge integrity of our innocent
\ncitizens, failing which we would be compelled to embark all necessary
\nmeasures to retrieve the collapsing image and glory of the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat the people of Jigawa state, however, not surprised by either the
\nallegations or the arraignment of the governor\u2019s sons before the law court
\nas their involvement in government activities and transactions are open
\nsecrets, leading to allegations of their involvement in massive plunder of
\nthe resources of our helpless citizens\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat the people of Jigawa state are not only outraged, but are
\ncollectively ashamed by the unprecedented crudity involved in the
\naccumulated theft of Jigawa\u2019s Billions of Naira, allegedly under the
\nwatch, direction and supervision of the father-governor.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe further wish to warn against the use of the resources of our state to
\nfacilitate the legal defence of the two accused persons, as they have no
\nlegal status whatsoever, and are therefore been charged in their
\nindividual capacities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge Nigerians not to dismiss this grave allegations as there cannot
\nbe smoke without fire, and hereby call on all authorities charged with
\nfighting heinous crimes in Nigeria and beyond to spread their dragnet far
\nand wide, to ensure comprehensive investigations, capable of unraveling
\nthe scale and magnitude of the alleged theft of our resources for which
\nthe two accused sons of the governor will now stand trial, together with
\ntheir father-governor, as facilitator\/accomplice.<\/p>\n
The statement also stated that as informed and responsible citizens with
\ninsight into the conduct of governance in that state, we urge all
\nNigerians and the anticorruption organizations to take keen interest in
\nthis unfolding revelations of unspeakable proportions, and as the drama
\npromises to be a mere tip of the ice-berg in what can possible become the
\ngovernor\u2019s legacy of double-standards, pretentious claim to progressive
\ncauses and mass deceit over the years.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor any investigation to be meaningful, according to the group, all the
\ngovernor\u2019s suspected associates, especially Nigerians and Lebanese, their
\nconstruction companies and others would need to be invited for
\ninterrogation concerning multi-billion Naira projects, such as the dubious
\nJigawa state Airport, Judicial complex, School of Nursing and Midwifery,
\nofficial residences of Local Government Chairman, purchase of official
\nvehicles at ridiculous prices and hiring of private jets.<\/p>\n
The group finally called on conscientious citizens of Jigawa state to
\nwelcome this God-given opportunity, to liberate the state from the imposed
\npoverty, ignorance and despotic rule of the present governor and his
