A man accused of hacking a soldier to death on a London street told police
\nhe was a \u201csoldier of Allah\u201d fighting a war against Britain but that the
\nkilling brought him little joy, a court heard Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Michael Adebolajo, who is on trial with Michael Adebowale for the brutal
\nmurder of Lee Rigby near his barracks in the south London district of
\nWoolwich in May, made the comments during interviews with police after his
\narrest.
\nAdebolajo has been asked to be referred to as Mujaahid Abu Hamza in court.<\/p>\n
In recordings of the interviews shown to the jury at the Old Bailey
\ncriminal court in London, 28-year-old Adebolajo blamed his actions on
\n\u201cwicked\u201d leaders such as Prime Minister David Cameron and his predecessor
\nTony Blair.<\/p>\n
Asked by detectives to describe the killing, during which the two men
\nallegedly hit Rigby with a car before attacking him with knives, Adebolajo
\nsaid the soldier\u2019s head was \u201calmost detached and may Allah forgive me if I
\nacted in a way that is displeasing to him\u201d.<\/p>\n
In another interview, during which he had a blue blanket over his head,
\nAdebolajo said the killing was \u201cfor those people who have not yet
\nunderstood the nature, the nature of the war that\u2019s ongoing and has been
\nongoing for some many years between the Muslims and the British people\u201d.<\/p>\n
He went on: \u201cYour leaders, you have leaders who rule over you,
\nunfortunately they rule over you in a very wicked, corrupt, selfish and
\noppressive manner.\u201d<\/p>\n
Adebolajo said he was \u201cparticularly disgusted by David Cameron, the
\nMiliband brothers and what\u2019s-his-name, Nick Clegg\u201d, referring to
\nopposition Labour leader Ed Miliband, his brother David, and Liberal
\nDemocrat Deputy Prime Minister Clegg.<\/p>\n
He also spoke of the \u201cwickedness and corruption\u201d of Blair, who took
\nBritain in to the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Cameron, he said, was
\n\u201ctrying to emulate the footsteps of Tony Blair as if he worships him\u201d.<\/p>\n
But he added that it brought him \u201clittle joy to approach anybody and slay
\nthem\u201d.<\/p>\n
Rigby\u2019s widow Rebecca left the court in tears as the interviews were played.<\/p>\n
A psychiatrist\u2019s report read to the court earlier on Wednesday found that
\nAdebolajo showed \u201cno regret or remorse\u201d.<\/p>\n
