The Amalgamation for Greater Nigeria has urged the court which freed Major\u00a0Hamza Al-Mustapha of murder charges to arrest former President Olusegun\u00a0Obasanjo for contempt because of his claim in a letter to President\u00a0Jonathan that the verdict was influenced.<\/p>\n
The group said: \u201cWe urge the Court of Appeal to arrest and charge\u00a0Obasanjo for contempt in describing its judgment as being influenced.\u00a0Government should also open investigations into the deadly massacres of\u00a0hundreds of innocent civilians in Odi and Zaki Biam on Obasanjo\u2019s\u00a0directives.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a statement weekend, the group equally urged President Goodluck\u00a0Jonathan not to dismiss the allegations in the December 2 letter but set\u00a0up a high-powered investigation panel and involve the international\u00a0community to investigate Obasanjo whom they believe is up to some grievous\u00a0mischief.<\/p>\n
A press statement issued in Abuja by Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the group\u2019s\u00a0national director, media and public relations said: \u201cInstead of dismissing\u00a0the contents of the letter, the Presidency should investigate the issues\u00a0raised particularly, the allegation that the Federal Government is\u00a0training a strike force to carry out terrorist attacks on political\u00a0opponents ahead 2015 elections.\u201d<\/p>\n
The group condemned Obasanjo as the mastermind and initiator of all the\u00a0atrocities he accused Jonathan of, including condoning corruption, ethnic\u00a0politics, insincerity and disrespect for gentleman agreements in all dealings.<\/p>\n
The AGN also advised Major Hamza Al-Mustapha to challenge Obasanjo to\u00a0provide proof of his claims that President Jonathan influenced the final\u00a0outcome of his fourteen-year-long trial as well as solid evidence that\u00a0that he is being used to run an assassination squad to target Jonathan\u2019s\u00a0opponents.<\/p>\n
The group lamented that for an Army General and one who ruled Nigeria for\u00a0about 10 years on two separate occasions to deliberately create the\u00a0impression that the respected Court of Appeal that gave the Al-Mustapha\u00a0verdict was unduly influenced by President Jonathan, is disturbing,\u00a0worrisome and outright contemptuous.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is unfortunate for Obasanjo whose only qualification as member of the\u00a0National Council of State is the expectation for him to uphold and\u00a0safeguard the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at all times\u00a0to now deliberately insult the nation\u2019s judiciary which is a major\u00a0constitutional institution,\u201d the group said.<\/p>\n
AGN insisted that the allegation that Al-Mustapha is being used by\u00a0Jonathan to run an assassination squad is merely an expression of
\nObasanjo\u2019s warped idea of executive power as demonstrated by the yet\u00a0unsolved cases of the assassinations of Bola Ige, Harry Marshal, Chuba\u00a0Okadigbo under his administration.<\/p>\n
The group urged the security agencies to investigate Obasanjo\u2019s claims as\u00a0his antecedents have proved him a very dangerous element in the society\u00a0that is not safe to be free.<\/p>\n
AGN warned that since Obasanjo has failed to eschew the deep-seated\u00a0animosity he harbours against the late General Sani Abacha which he is\u00a0translating unto Al-Mustapha, they will sponsor a public debate for the\u00a0Major and Obasanjo on the unresolved issues of the unexplained deaths of\u00a0General Abacha, Chief M.K.O.
