Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State on Wednesday in Akure formally declared his intention to contest for a second term in office.<\/p>\n
He told a crowd at Oyemekun-Adesida Road that his decision was primarily informed by the desire to complete the projects he initiated.<\/p>\n
In a speech entitled, “I Will Continue to Work for You,\u2019\u2019 the governor also promised to start a new string of programmes directed at enhancing the quality of life of the people.<\/p>\n
“We shall continue to deliver more Mother and Child Hospitals, construct neighbourhood markets and motor parks, encourage agricultural programmes and reactivate moribund factories.<\/p>\n
`We desire to solidify the foundation for an irreversible path to development which we have laid these past three and half years in our sunshine state,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
He commended the people and members of his party for standing solidly behind his administration.
\nMimiko said his administration made the people the central focus of governance by putting in place people-oriented projects that had benchmarked the state.<\/p>\n
“By so doing, we have succeeded in overcoming the mutual distrust and suspicion that characterised the relationship between government and the people.<\/p>\n
“We have raised the profile of governance and set a standard beyond which no government can afford to fall in our dear state.<\/p>\n
“For the three and a half years that we have been at the helm of affairs, we pursued activities that cohered with our vision of government.<\/p>\n
“We have formulated policies that were informed by the collective interest of our people and democratised access to the good things of life,\u2019\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
