Nigeria Military said it has shot dead 38 suspected Boko Haram members
\nat the early hours of today during a military offensive on terrorist hide
\nout in Damboa Town, Borno State.<\/p>\n
Spokesman of the Military in Borno State , Colonel Muhammad Dole confirmed
\nthe incident today in an e-mail statement sent to reporters<\/p>\n
The Military Spokesman added that ” one soldier was killed and two
\nsustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment.”<\/p>\n
“During their regular robust patrols of their Area of Responsibility
\n(AOR), the troops of 195 Battalion in Damboa successfully repelled planned
\nBoko Haram Terrorists\u2019 attack on residents and military camp. In the early
\nhours (0100 hours) of Thursday 9 January 2014, the insurgents attempted to
\nlaunch attack on Damboa to cause havoc and mayhem. But due to timely
\ninformation and gallantry displayed by the troops, the attack was repelled
\nand inflicted heavy casualty on the terrorists.<\/p>\n
“While the encounter lasted, Thirty Eight (38) Boko Haram Terrorists were
\nkilled and some fled with various degrees of injuries. Three (3) vehicles,
\none Sienna LE Borno (AE 844 DKW) laden with cylinders and Improvise
\nExplosive Devices, one 911 truck (SA 575 BBU) loaded with 200 bags of food
\nstuff and one Mitsubishi canter truck (XD 441 GG) were recovered. Likewise
\nlarge cache of assorted arms of high caliber weapons and ammunition
\ncomprises of General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), Light Machine Guns (LMG)
\nand two AK 47 rifles were seized.<\/p>\n
“Combined ground troops and Nigerian Air Force aircraft are tactically
\npursuing the fleeing terrorists in the ongoing operation in the general
\narea of Damboa and surrounding villages.” Dole Said.<\/p>\n
Colonel Dole therefore revealed that the General Officer Commanding 7
\nDivision is appealing to the general public to avail the troops with
\nleading information for successful tracking of the fleeing insurgents. He
\nequally appreciates their cooperation and understanding.<\/p>\n
