Governor Seriake Dickson has given automatic employment to six casual
\nveterinary doctors of the Bayelsa State Veterinary Clinic at Edepie in
\nthe State capital.
\nGovernor Dickson, who announced this, while commissioning the Ultra
\nmodern veterinary clinic at the school to land premises along Imiringi
\nroad, Edepie, Yenagoa, stated that, Government would continue to
\ninvest in agriculture until the State becomes number in the sector.
\nHe stated that, concerted efforts were being made to put a standard
\nabattoir in place, stressing that, when it is completed along with
\nother facilities, no animal will be allowed into the State without
\nbeing properly examined before it is slaughtered for consumption.
\nGovernor Dickson described agriculture as the tripod of his
\nadministration, adding that it will create employment and provide food
\nfor the teeming population of Bayelsans.
\nAccording to him, it will also increase the Gross Domestic product of
\nthe state and improve its internally generated revenue profile as
\nwell.
\nThe Governor, who expressed satisfaction with the rice mill and other
\nfacilities already installed at the farm, promised to visit the farm
\nsite on a more regular basis and ensure that boys and girls of the
\nstate are meaningfully engaged.
\nHe disclosed that the school of agriculture that is underway is to
\nprovide manpower for the various agriculture projects and facilities
\nbeing put in place at the school to land farm.
\nIn his remarks, the Commissioner for agriculture, Dr. Thomas Commander
\ndisclosed that the Veterinary Clinic is the first to be built in the
\nstate, noting that the facility and the equipment are of high
\nstandard.
\nThe Governor was also conducted round the different sections of the
\nclinic which include Vet shop\/Vet Pharmacy, examination room and
\nlaboratory.
\nHe also inspected the poultry farm with 15,000 broilers and directed
\nthat the capacity be increased to 30,000, promising to make N60
\nmillion available for the completion of the project.<\/p>\n
