Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has cautioned the Federal Government
\nagainst abuse of power following the abrupt manner the CBN Governor,
\nSanusi Lamido Sanisu was suspended.<\/p>\n
Reacting to the suspension in a statement issued by his media office in
\nAbuja, the former Vice President maintained that the President had no
\npower to remove or suspend the CBN Governor in such manner.<\/p>\n
According to Atiku, silence in the face of such abuse of power by the
\nPresident of the country was capable of sending the wrong message and
\nsetting a dangerous precedent.<\/p>\n
The former Vice President recalled that, when he became a victim of such
\nabuse of power in the past following his suspension as Vice President by
\nformer President Olusegun Obasanjo, he went to court to challenge the
\naction and that the Federal High Court, the Court of Appeal and the
\nSupreme Court ruled that a President cannot suspend a public officer he
\nhad no power to sack.<\/p>\n
The former Vice President, who confessed that he has no details of the
\nnature of Sanusi\u2019s alleged \u201coffences\u201d, neither was he in the position to
\ndefend them, said \u201cwhatever might be the offence Sanusi committed,
\nPresident Jonathan should have followed constitutional process to suspend
\nor remove the CBN Governor instead of exceeding the boundary of his
\npowers.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not about Sanusi as a person, or the person nominated to succeed
\nhim, Godwin Emefiele who is a thorough bred professional. It is about due
\nprocess that should be upheld,\u201d Atiku said.<\/p>\n
Atiku therefore advised the suspended the CBN Governor to go to court to
\nchallenge his suspension in the interest of constitutionalism and the rule
