The Governor of Kano state, Dr. Rabi\u2019u Musa Kwankwaso , on Thursday
\nchided the suspension of the Governor of the Central Bank, (CBN), Mallam
\nSanusi Lamido Sanusi.<\/p>\n
Kwankwaso said the drama heralding Sanusi\u2019s suspension was a grand plan to
\nundermie the North and its economic nerve centre\u2014Kano.<\/p>\n
Kwankwaso said that the suspension of Sanusi was a grand design to
\ndislodge Kanawa from the economic and financial decision-making of
\nNigeria via the President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan\u2019s administration, adding
\nthat, in order to further impoverish and marginalize the state.<\/p>\n
The Governor also said it was sheer disrespect to the existing laws of the
\nland and show of ingratitude that a person who has brought about sweeping
\npositive changes that would have put the nation’s economy on the pedestal
\nof growth would be treated unfairly.<\/p>\n
He said Sanusi should rather be commended for exposing the rot and
\ncorruption in the NNPC. “A responsible government would have promptly
\ninvestigated the allegations but they disappointingly refused to do so,”
\nKwankwaso said.<\/p>\n
While describing the suspension as illegal, null and void, Gov. Kwankwaso
\nnoted that the CBN Act provides that the removal of CBN Governor “shall be
\nsupported by two-third majority of the Senate praying that he be so
\nremoved.”<\/p>\n
“Clearly therefore law does not give the President the power to suspend
\nthe CBN Governor without recourse to the Senate. You cannot just trample
\non the law with impunity, without recourse to constitutional provisions,”
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
The governor further drew analogy from the illegal removal of President of
\nthe Court of Appeal Justice Ayo Salami by President Jonathan.<\/p>\n
“In a similar guise of suspension, Justice Salami was removed by the
\nPresident and was not reinstated despite his reinstatement by the NJC.
\nThey refused to do so until he attained the retirement age of 70 years,”
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
