President Goodluck Jonathan has said that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is still the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The president made the disclosure during the presidential media chat on Monday, stressing that he was only suspended to give room for investigation into the allegation of financial recklessness levelled against him.<\/p>\n
He also said all the allegations levelled against the NNPC by Sanusi would never be swept away, as anyone found culpable would be made to face justice.<\/p>\n
He assured that Sanusi will be restored to his position if he is not guilty at the end of the investigation.<\/p>\n
Jonathan, however, said he had full powers to suspend Sanusi as the CBN governor.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, I have absolute power. The CBN is not well defined in the Nigerian Constitution,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
According to him, the president has oversight functions over the bank.<\/p>\n
The president explained that the suspension was delayed in view of the need to consult widely and not to send a wrong signal.
\n\u201cWhen dealing with the treasury of a nation, you have to be careful and consult widely.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
On wether Sanusi would be prosecuted he said since the FRC report was not conclusive there is need to wait until all the allegations are looked into.<\/p>\n
On his plans for 2015 he said he would make them known at the right time.<\/p>\n
