The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the compulsory
\nretirement of Justice Gladys Olotu and Justice Ufot Inyang over alleged
\ngross misconduct.<\/p>\n
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Soji Oye, NJC Acting
\nDirector of Information, and issued on Thursday in Abuja.<\/p>\n
The NJC said that the decision to recommend the retirement of Olotu of the
\nFederal High Court, and Inyang of the FCT High court was taken at the
\nCouncil\u2019s meeting of Feb 26.<\/p>\n
It said that the judges were recommended to President Goodluck Jonathan
\nfor compulsory retirement from office pursuant to the outcome of the
\nCouncil\u2019s findings.<\/p>\n
He said that the findings were necessitated by petitions on allegations of
\ngross misconduct levelled against them.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe National Judicial Council has in the exercise of its disciplinary
\npowers under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as
\namended, suspended the two judges from office with immediate effect,\u2019\u2019 the
\nstatement said.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, three other judges were issued with warning
\nletters by the NJC on account of declining productivity.<\/p>\n
They are Justice Dalhatu Adamu, Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal,
\nKaduna Division, Justice A.A Adeleye of the Ekiti High Court, and Justice
\nD.O. Amaechina of Anambra High Court.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Council also issued warning letters to Justice Dalhatu Adamu, CFR,
\nPresiding Justice of Court of Appeal, Kaduna Division.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt also issued similar letters to Justice A. A. Adeleye of High Court of
\nJustice, Ekiti, and Justice D. O. Amaechina of High Court of Justice,
