Abuja \u2013 President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday decorated seven living
\nformer Nigerian Heads of State and Presidents with the centenary awards.<\/p>\n
The centenary anniversary awards night and dinner, during which 100
\nrecipients were decorated, was held at the banquet hall of the
\nPresidential Villa.<\/p>\n
The decorated leaders are Yakubu Gowon, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Alhaji
\nShehu Shagari and Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n
Others are Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Chief Ernest Shonekan and Gen.
\nAbdusalami Abubakar.
\nSix late Nigerian Heads of State were honoured post-humously.<\/p>\n
The recipients of the post-humous award are Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Alhaji
\nTafawa Balewa, Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi, Gen. Murtala Mohammed, Gen. Sani Abacha
\nand Alhaji Musa Yar\u2019Adua.<\/p>\n
Also in the category is the presumed winner of the June 1993 general
\nelection, late Chief Moshood Abiola.<\/p>\n
The President decorated the representatives of the late leaders among whom
\nis Mrs Maryam Abacha.
\nAlso the centenary awards are in 13 categories with winners both living
\nand dead.<\/p>\n
The first are those who have contributed to the making of Nigeria and
\nthey include Queen Elizabeth II of England, Lord Fredrick Lugard and his
\nwife, Lady Lugard,<\/p>\n
The second category is the Heroes of the Struggle for independence\/Pioneer
\npolitical leaders which include Azikiwe, Balewa, Macaulay and Chief
\nObafemi Awolowo.<\/p>\n
Others in the category are Sir Ahmadu Bello, Prof Eyo Ita, Jaja Nwachukwu,
\nPa Michael Imoudu, Chief Anthony Enahoro and Chief Joseph Tarka.<\/p>\n
The rest are Malam Aminu Kano, Mrs Margaret Ekpo, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti
\nand Hajia Gambo Sawaba.<\/p>\n
The third category is the Pioneers in professional Callings\/careers which
\ninclude the first indigenous lawyer, Chief Sapara Williams, and the first
\nindigenous Solicitor, Chief Rotimi Williams.<\/p>\n
The categories also include the first indigenous Chartered Accountant,
\nChief Akintola Williams, and the first indigenous Inspector General of
\nPolice, Louis Edet, and the first indigenous medical doctor, Prof. Eyitayo
\nLambo,<\/p>\n
Also in the categories are the first female Vice Chancelor of Nigerian
\nuniversities, Prof. Grace Alele-Williams, and the first indigenous female
\npilot,.Capt. Chinyere Kalu.<\/p>\n
Others include Akinwale Wey, Gen. George, Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi,
\nTamunoiyowunam, Gen. Abdullahi Mohammed, Prof. Kenneth Dike, and Gen.
\nOviemo Ovadje.<\/p>\n
The fourth category is Pioneer in Commerce and Industry, which has Louis
\nOdumegwu Ojukwu, Alh. Alhassan Dantata and Chief Adeola Odutola.<\/p>\n
Awardees under Pioneer of Democratic Transition in Nigeria are Shagari,
\nlate Abiola, late Gen. Shehu Yar\u2019Adua and Abdusalami Abubakar.<\/p>\n
The sixth category is the Heroes in Global Sports Competitions which are
\nChioma Ajunwa, Nwankwo Kanu, Richard Ihetu, Chief Michael Okpala (Power
\nMike) and Monday Emoghavwe.<\/p>\n
The seventh category is Accomplished Pioneer Public Servants and the
\nawardees include Chief Olabode Wey, Justice Udo Udoma, Chief Emeka
\nAnyaoku and Sir Adetokubo Ademola.<\/p>\n
Others are Dr Olawale Elias, Dr Rilwan Lukman, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki and
\nAlh. Aliyu Mai-Borno.
\nThe awardess under category eight, which are the Accomplished Temporary
\nEntrepreneurs, are Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chief Mike Adenuga and Dr
\ninnocent Chukwuma.<\/p>\n
The ninth category is Distinguished Academics and the recipients include
\nProfs. Benjamin Osuntokun, . Kelsey Harrison, Chike Obi, Dagogo Fubara,
\nAde Ajayi, Claude Ake, Babatunde Fafunwa, Godwin Abasi and Umaru Shehu.<\/p>\n
The 10th category is International Acclaimed Artists, Literary Icons and
\nJournalists and the recipients include Chief Michael Akinwumi, Profs. Wole
\nSoyinka, Chinua Achebe and John Pepper Clark.<\/p>\n
The recipients also include Mr Cyprian Ekwensi, Alhaji Abubakar Imam, Mr
\nDaniel Fagunwa, Ernest Ikoli, Alhaji Babatunde Jose and Kenneth Nnebue.<\/p>\n
The category also has Olu Jacobs, Patience Ozokwor, Shata Katsina, Herbert
\nOgunde, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Osita Osadebe and Dr Ladi Kwali.<\/p>\n
Others are Benedict Enwonwu, Alhaji Maitama Sule, Prof. Akin Mabogunje, Dr
\nBarnabas Oloruntoba and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Maryam Mukhtar.<\/p>\n
The 11th category is Outstanding Bravery and Public Spiritedness and the
\nbeneficiaries are Chief Gani Fawehinmi and Michael Ihuka,.<\/p>\n
The 12th category is Outstanding Promoters of Unity, Patriotism and
\nNational development and in the category are former Heads of State and
\nPresidents.<\/p>\n
The recipients are Gowon, late Gen. Murtala Mohammed, Obasanjo, Buhari,
\nBabangida, Shonekan, Gen. Sani Abacha, Alhaji Umaru Yar\u2019Adua, and Gen.
\nTheophilus Danjuma.<\/p>\n
The last category is Exemplary Service in the Promotion of Peace and Moral
\nExcellence and the recipients are Sir Abubakar Sadiq, Sheikh Abubakar
