The Nigerian Police has honoured late Assistant Inspector General of
\nPolice, Mr. Dickson Sanomi posthumously for his outstanding contribution
\nto sports in the force.<\/p>\n
Also, honoured along the late AIG Sanomi, is Olympic gold medalists, late
\nSunday Bada and Chioma Ajunwa and the Inspector General of Police, Mr.
\nMohammed Abubakar.<\/p>\n
The Assistant Inspector General of Police was the Force Sports Officer.<\/p>\n
In a ceremony at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, which witnesses a
\ngathering of retired and serving Police Officers, the Inspector General
\nPolice said that officers and men who have passed through the force and
\nhave done so much should be appreciated.<\/p>\n
“We are indeed grateful to every Policeman serving and retired, for your
\ncontribution, for making the Police what it is today in terms of sports
\ndevelopment. We have produced so much for the country. Kikelomo Ajayi,
\nlate Sunday Bada,Fatima is there in Badminton and there are several
\nothers.”<\/p>\n
Mr. Abubakar, however, pointed out that demands of time and the job have
\nled to a lull assuring that “we are going back to the planning stage to
\nensure that Nigeria gets back to the stage it was before.”
\nThe IGP promised that Police officers that were into sports will be promoted.<\/p>\n
In a chat with FrontiersNews, Olympic gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa noted
\nthat the award is unique even as she added that “anything you are doing
\nmake sure you do it well because it might take long before you will be
\nrecognised but one day we know the messiah must come.”<\/p>\n
The award was divided into four categories, with category one going to
\nCorporate\/friends of the Police. Category 2 officers for sports award
\n(retired) was given to 69 officers. Category 3, 9 officers took home the
\nAward for Nigeria Police Management Team.<\/p>\n
For the Serving Police Officers in Planning Committee for Award, 13
\nofficers were honoured and for Officers for Sports Award (Post Humous), 46
