The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to unveil its \u201cRoad map to a
\nNew Nigeria\u201d at the Party\u2019s National Summit to be held in Abuja on
\nThursday, March 6th.<\/p>\n
The Interim National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai
\nMohammed, said in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday that the Road map
\nwill detail the party\u2019s priorities in fixing the widespread failings of
\nsuccessive PDP governments since 1999, in order to bring
\nhope and succour to the long-suffering people of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
It said the Road map was a product of an empirical and painstaking process
\nembarked upon by the APC, in a deviation from the old practice of
\npackaging such documents on a whim.<\/p>\n
\u201dWith conditions deteriorating throughout Nigeria, with security an ever
\nincreasing concern, with the lack of jobs pushing families and young
\npeople further and further into poverty and with new stories of corruption
\nwithin the PDP government appearing day after day, the APC decided to
\ncommission the largest ever public opinion survey in Nigerian history to
\ndetermine the current status of things in the nation directly from those
\nwho knew best \u2013 the actual people of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
\u201dThe results were even more revealing than the APC had anticipated: When
\nasked, \u2018If the election were held today, would you vote for Goodluck
\nJonathan or the candidate of the All Progressives Congress\u2019, the APC
\ncandidate held a ten-point lead over the President. By a
\nmargin of 44% to 34% (with 22% undecided), the APC candidate was the clear
\nnational choice.<\/p>\n
\u201dWhen asked, \u2018In general, do you think things in Nigeria are going in a
\ngood direction or bad direction\u2019, by a staggering more than two-to-one
\nmargin (50%-24%), Nigerians responded that the country was going in a bad
\ndirection. When asked, \u2018What issue would you like the President and
\nNational Assembly to focus on most\u2019, an overwhelming majority (60%) said
\njobs was the dominant issue that the government should address.<\/p>\n
\u201dAnd then when asked if they found the following statement convincing or
\nnote, \u2018Goodluck Jonathan has done nothing to create jobs, and far too many
\npeople are still unemployed\u2019, decisively, 58% of Nigerians found that
\nargument about Jonathan convincing.<\/p>\n
Finally when asked if Jonathan was doing a good or bad job fighting
\ncorruption, 59% Nigerians thought Jonathan was doing a bad job fighting
\ncorruption.<\/p>\n
\u201dThe voice of the people was clear: The nation is going in the wrong
\ndirection. The nation wants change and would not vote to re-elect Jonathan
\nin part because the number one issue to Nigerians is jobs and the nation
\nbelieves Jonathan has no credibility on the issue of job creation,\u201d APC
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
According to the party, the unveiling of the party\u2019s Road map, designed
\nwith the survey results in mind and the real needs of the Nigerian people
\nmade evident by the people themselves, will be the clearest indication yet
