Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Damishi Barau, has formally submitted a
\nletter withdrawing his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC.<\/p>\n
The deputy governor, who walked into the state secretariat of the party
\naround 11:00 a.m. on Monday, handed the letter to the state secretary of
\nthe party, Mustapha Galadima.
\nAlso, Mr. Markus Gundiri, one of the founding members of the All
\nProgressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa, has dumped the party for the
\nPeoples\u2019 Democratic Party (PDP).<\/p>\n
The Nasarawa State interim Chairman of the APC, Stanley Buba, confirmed
\nthe development saying the party wished the deputy governor well in his
\nfuture endeavour.
\n\u201cHe was under suspension before now, I don\u2019t know whether it\u2019s the
\nsuspension that made him to quit but all the same we wish him well in his
\nfuture endeavour,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Nasarawa APC for publicly criticising the national leadership of the
\nparty over its stance recently suspended Mr. Barau.
\nThe Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura is a member of the APC, but
\nthe Nasarawa Assembly is PDP dominated, fuelling speculations of an
\nimpeachment plan.<\/p>\n
Also, addressing newsmen on Monday in Yola, Gundiri said that his decision
\nto defect to the PDP was based on \u201cbreach of trust and lack of
\naccommodation\u2019\u2019 in the APC.<\/p>\n
Gundiri, a gubernatorial candidate on the platform of the defunct Action
\nCongress of Nigeria (ACN) in the Feb. 2012 election in the state, said his
\naction was aimed at \u201cstrengthening democratic norms and principles.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
He said that he was initially optimistic that the fusion of the ACN, CPC
\nand ANPP to form the APC would provide a rare opportunity for the APC to
\ndefeat the PDP in the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state.<\/p>\n
He listed \u201cinjustice and impunity\u2019\u2019 displayed by the interim committee of
\nthe APC as other reasons that forced him to dump the APC for the PDP.
\nGundiri criticised the way the interim committee of the APC was
\nconstituted in the state without \u201cdue recognition and respect\u2019\u2019 for senior
\npartners in the coalition that formed the APC.<\/p>\n
He alleged that trained registration supervisors were not allowed to
\nhandle the APC membership registration in some local government areas of
\nthe state as demanded by law, adding that the exercise was cancelled in
\nsome local government areas.<\/p>\n
He called on his supporters and the electorate in the state to support the
\nPDP to move the state forward in 2015.
\nHe said that arrangements were on to receive him and his supporters into
