In furtherance of his unflinching support for President Goodluck Jonathan,
\nGovernor
\nTheodore Orji of Abia State, has urged all presidential aspirants of
\nSouth-east zone
\nto shelve their ambition and close ranks with the President for re-
\nelection in
\n2015.<\/p>\n
In a press release by his Chief Press Secretary , Mr. Charles Ajunwa,
\nGovernor Orji
\ninsists that Jonathan deserves total support of Ndigbo for a second term
\nin office
\nconsidering his commitment in addressing the gross neglect perpetrated
\nagainst the
\nrace by previous administrations in the country.<\/p>\n
According to him, Jonathan has proved beyond doubts that the welfare of
\nNdigbo is
\nvery dear to him as demonstrated so far through most of the key projects
\neither
\nalready executed or being undertaken in South-east by his administration.<\/p>\n
He identified some of the historic achievements of Jonathan’s
\nadministration in the
\nregion to include the upgrading of Akanu Ibiam Airport Enugu to international
\nairport, the\u00a0 total reconstruction of hitherto deplorable Enugu\/ Port
\nHarcourt
\nExpressway, rehabilitation of\u00a0 Onitsha \/ Enugu Expressway, restoration of
\nOhafia
\nMilitary Barracks, the commencement of work on second Niger Bridge, among
\nothers.<\/p>\n
” Apart from identifiable infrastructural developments in the zone,
\nJonathan has
\nalso appointed Igbo sons and daughters to sensitive positions in the
\ncountry”, Orji
\nsaid, adding that since the history of Nigeria, no President has empowered
\nNdigbo
\nlike Jonathan.<\/p>\n
” Therefore, any person from South-east or South-south coming out to
\ncontest for the
\nPresidency in 2015 does not have the interest of the zones at heart. Such
\na person
\nshould be ignored because he is doing so for selfish reasons, and must fail.<\/p>\n
” If any person from these zones tells you he wants to contest against
\nJonathan in
\n2015 he is only looking for settlement and should be allowed to fail.<\/p>\n
” The reasonable thing for Ndigbo is to give Jonathan our maximum support
\nwhenever
\nhe declares his ambition for 2015, then after his second tenure we will
\nnegotiate
\nfor the Presidency because as key players in the Nigerian project, Ndigbo
\nalso
\ndeserve the Presidency for equity and fairness.”<\/p>\n
Governor Orji therefore called on Ndigbo irrespective of their political
\nviews, to
\ncontinue to stand firm behind President Jonathan in his relentless efforts to
\ntransform all sectors of the Nigerian economy .<\/p>\n
” It is not in doubt that Jonathan is our best bet, and supporting him for
\na second
\nterm in office is sacrosanct to us in Abia . We did it before in 2011, and
\nwe are
\nnow more united and better organised to do it again.”<\/p>\n
The Governor also noted that the calibre of eminent personalities from the
\nregion
\nwho trooped out to receive the President in\u00a0 Owerri recently, is a sure
\nindication
