President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday in Abuja forwarded the name of
\nJustice Zainab Bulkachuwa as President of the Court of Appeal.<\/p>\n
In a letter addressed to Senate President, Jonathan said the nomination
\nwas in conformity with the 1999 Constitution\u00a0 as amended.<\/p>\n
The letter was read by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who
\npresided over plenary
\nIf confirmed, Bulkachuwa would be the first female President of the Court
\nof Appeal.<\/p>\n
It would be recalled Bulkachuwa has been holding the position in acting
\ncapacity since Novemeber 2012.<\/p>\n
Jonathan on Wednesday also forwarded the name of Mr Shettima Gana for
\nconfirmation and reappointment into the Revenue Mobilsation, Allocation
\nand Fiscal Commission.<\/p>\n
This was also contained in a letter sent to the Senate by the president.<\/p>\n
The president noted in the letter that the commission was\u00a0 one of the
\nexecutive bodies established under Section 153(1) of the 1999
\nConstitution.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy the provision of Part 1(N) of the third schedule of the constitution,
\nthe commission shall comprise a chairman and one member from each state of
\nthe federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section
\n154(1) of the 1999 constitution decided to re-appoint Gana as a member of
\nthe commission,\u2019\u2019 the letter read.<\/p>\n
Jonathan also forwarded the Nigerian Metallurgical Industry Bill 2014 and
\nthe Nigeria Fertilizer Bill 2014 to the Senate for consideration and
\npassage into law.<\/p>\n
The President expressed optimism that the requests would receive the usual
