Students of Bowen University, Iwo, on Wednesday night went on the rampage while kicking against the university authorities\u2019 plans to increase tuition fees.<\/p>\n
The students of the private university, owned and operated by the Nigerian Baptist Convention, destroyed school property, vehicles and their chaplain\u2019s residence.<\/p>\n
Some of the students also complained of \u2018unnecessary rules and regulations\u2019 imposed on them by the school authorities.<\/p>\n
While the protest that began Wednesday night continued Thursday. The students to razed down buildings, smashed cars and spread mayhem all over the university campus.<\/p>\n
The school security personnel fled while violent protest was going on but the police later stepped\u00a0in and restored order.<\/p>\n
A student who wants to remain anonymous revealed that \u201cthis issue has been going on for some time now. In fact, it started during the tenure of the last VC but it wasn\u2019t as bad as this. This new VC made it worse. At times they\u2019ll supply light for just a few hours especially in the morning. It\u2019s just so annoying and painful.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe pay over N400,000 as school fees yet we don\u2019t enjoy all the basic amenities a private university should have. It\u2019s not just fair. We made formal complaints but it\u2019s been story upon story. Nothing has really been done.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another student said, \u201cwe didn\u2019t know it was going to escalate to this level. It just shows the level of frustration that has set in. The boys left their hostels for the temporary site and\u00a0burnt some stuffs down. That\u2019s all I can say for now.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wale, who works in the school\u2019s sachet water factory, said in phone conversation withP.M.NEWS<\/em>\u00a0 that the students razed down buildings, smashed cars including the VC\u2019s car and destroyed things all over the university campus.<\/p>\n \u201cThe school\u2019s gate has been locked and people that work in the school were unable to enter the\u00a0school and police has been deployed to come and stop the protest,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Students of Bowen University, Iwo, on Wednesday night went on the rampage while kicking against the university authorities\u2019 plans to increase tuition fees.
