The ongoing prosecution of Mahmud Tukur, son of the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has ripped apart the Tukur family, Pointblanknews.com has learnt.<\/p>\n
Mahmud, Mamman Nasir, son of former PDP Chairman, Ahmadu Ali, and Abdulahi, son of Ibadan money man, Arisekola Alao, are one of the 17 persons arraigned by the Financial and Economic Crime Commission (EFCC), for the grand fuel subsidy fraud.<\/p>\n
The trial has pitched the PDP chairman, his eldest son and former member of the House of Representatives, Aawalu and Mahmud against each other.<\/p>\n
Sources close to the Tukurs said the PDP chairman and Mahmud are not happy with Aawalu who has washed his hands off his younger brother\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n
Aawalu, who wants to take another shot at the Adamawa State Government House, has vowed never to show up in court whenever his younger brother appears in Court.\u00a0 But his decision has not gone down well with the dad, who is insisting they all show solidarity with Mahmud.<\/p>\n
Pointblanknews.com also gathered that Aawalu, a former House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Aviation who ran against incumbent Adamawa Governor, Muritala Nyako, is of the view that any public alliance or solidarity with his younger brother may tar him and jeopardize his chances in 2015.<\/p>\n
Aawalu who quit politics temporarily four years ago after Nyako defeated him has branded his brother a sore spot, who gets tacit encouragement from dad.<\/p>\n
Sources hinted that Aawalu is very close to his dad and somehow runs the show with his dad at the PDP secretariat and the Africa Business Roundtable where Bamanga is chairman. Our source hinted that considering his age and health, Aawalu is kind of running his affairs in PDP.<\/p>\n
Said our source \u201c the prosecution of Mahmud is causing a rift in the family, it is creating a lot of bad blood. The chairman and Aawalu have consistently disagreed over the issue of him (Aawalu) showing up in court.<\/p>\n
But Aawalu has insisted he will have nothing to do with Mahmud during his prosecution. \u201c<\/p>\n
According to our source \u201c Aawalu is a laid back person. Even while he was in the National Assembly he kept a low profile and never got involved in so many deals Mahmud was involved in. When he ran for the Governorship of Adamawa against Nyako, he lost, and said he would quit because he felt the whole thing was a fraud. Now he is back and wants to be governor in 2015.<\/p>\n
He doesn\u2019t want to be seen as an ally of Mahmud because of his nature and his ambition.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the role played by the senior Tukur our source said \u201c we are not sure if he was directly involved but the problem Aawalu has with his dad is, the chairman gives tacit support to his (Mahmud) activities. \u201c<\/p>\n
