The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar and the Ministry of
\nPolice Affairs have both denied ever receiving a N19.7 Billion from
\nsuspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi
\nLamido Sanusi for Police Equipment.<\/p>\n
Sanusi in his defense of the allegation of financial recklessness leveled
\nagainst him by the Financial Reporting Council, FRC, had said N19.7
\nBillion was released to the Ministry of Police Affairs for the purchase of
\na Helicopter and other security equipment for the Police.<\/p>\n
According to Sanusi in his defense, \u201cconsistent with our policy of
\ndevelopment, upon the instruction of His Excellency, the President, the
\nCBN intervened by paying N19.7bn to the Ministry of Police Affairs for the
\npurchase of armoured helicopters and other security equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n
But appearing before the House Committee on Public Accounts, the Police
\ndenied ever receiving such amount. The Police Affairs Ministry had earlier
\ndenied receiving the N19.7 Billion.<\/p>\n
Represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Air Wing, Mr.
\nIllesanmi Aguda, The IG said, the Police have \u201cno knowledge\u201d of any N19.7
\nBillion from the CBN through Sanusi.<\/p>\n
The Police boss referred the House Committee to the Police Ministry but
\nthe Chairman of the Committee; Mr. Adeola Olamilekan, said the Ministry
\nhad already denied knowledge of any money from the CBN.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the IGP and the police ministry deny receipt of the said N19.7bn, then
\nthe committee can rightly assume that the money is missing, until proven
\notherwise.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll the major actors involved in the alleged transaction including the
\nCBN have a case to answer.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Committee said it would invite the suspended CBN Governor and would
\nalso want to meet the IG in person to ascertain the whereabouts of the
