Bayelsa State government has denied reports that it paralyzed economic activities to accommodate the wedding of President Goodluck Jonathan foster daughter<\/p>\n
In a statement, the state government said it shut down
\nonly Kpansia Saturday market which is at the heart of the venue of the event to avert chaos.<\/p>\n
The statement was signed by Chief Press Secretary Daniel Iworiso-Markson.<\/p>\n
“The only place so affected is the Kpansia market, which is a traditional Saturday market and incidentally it is situated at the heart of the venue of the event.<\/p>\n
“Today\u2019s marriage ceremony.
\nIt is only reasonable to close the market in the best interest of all concerned.<\/p>\n
It does not make any sense to have both the market and the ceremony go on at the same time. This would be chaotic, with inherent inconveniences.<\/p>\n
“Also, the decision to stop construction work on major roads in Yenagoa Today is mainly for security reasons and to allow a better flow of traffic along the routes leading to the venue of the marriage,” Markson explained.<\/p>\n
He affirmed that “the state\u2019s economy is not affected, as people have been going about their activities without hindrance,” stressing,”it is, therefore, not true that state and in particular, Yenagoa, has been shut down because of the event.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
