President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has promised to remain a pan- Nigerian in spite of all the challenges stressing, “I will remain a pan-Nigerian and work for a nation where peace, love , development and unity reigns as a binding principle”.<\/p>\n
To achieve these , Senator Mark added: “I will dedicate the rest of my life to the service of God and humanity”.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a church service to mark his 66th Birthday at St. Mulumba Catholic Chaplaincy , Apo, Abuja he said he was not celebrating the birthday with any fun- fare because the mood of the nation (security challenges) is unhealthy for any celebration.<\/p>\n
“For me , any celebration, any gift you can give is to pray to God for all these violence and insurgency to pass away as quickly as possible”, Senator Mark stressed.<\/p>\n
Senator Mark again bemoaned the unabating insecurity in the land which have claimed thousands of lives and opined that, ” we can all cooperate to halt these needless killings of our people .<\/p>\n
“There are many channels to address any grievance . Violence is not one of the ways. It is inhuman to take another man’s life just because you are unhappy with a situation . Let us reason together as one people and end these needless wars “.<\/p>\n
He cautioned against anybody accepting the temptation of attributing the growing insurgency to religious war saying, “as far as I know, no religion preaches violence. All religions preaches peace and peaceful co-existence”.<\/p>\n
Senator Mark reminded Nigerians of the sanctity of living together as one people under one nation, pointing out that “We have more to gain by being together than otherwise.”.<\/p>\n
He specifically told the clergy not to rest on their oars praying for the peace, security and unity of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Senator Mark thanked his colleagues; Senators and members of the House of Representatives for the trust and confidence reposed in him to lead the National Assembly promising, “I will not fail you”.<\/p>\n
He urged that all hands must be on deck to make Nigeria a better place.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, the Leader of the Senate, Senator Victor Ndoma- Egba , SAN,
\nPraised the leadership of Senator Mark in the Senate, saying the Senate is one united family devoid of the proverbial banana peels.<\/p>\n
In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Innocent Jooji said the best gift to any body is prayer , assuring that God has answer to our challenges.<\/p>\n
