Officials of Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) have begun cleaning up the site of Monday bomb blast in Nyanya, a suburb of Abuja, which killed over 100 persons.<\/p>\n
A powerful explosive believed to have been planted by Boko Haram insurgents, early Monday morning ripped through Abuja’s biggest bus terminal killing over 100 persons and injuring many more.<\/p>\n
When Pointblanknews visited the site, Tuesday, AEPB officials were sighted cleaning and disinfecting the bus terminal.<\/p>\n
Combined teams of soldiers, policemen and civil defenders were sighted guarding the cordoned off terminal.<\/p>\n
Also sighted was an AEPB water tanker scouring portions of the terminal caked with blood and mangled human body parts.<\/p>\n
An AEPB official who craved anonymity told Pointblanknews.com that the clean up was to avert the outbreak of an epidemic,<\/p>\n
“You know this area is very close to the Nyanya market where all sorts of food items are sold. We don’t want a situation where decomposing body parts would pose a health hazard to market users,” he offered.<\/p>\n
He disclosed that the clean up would continue until “all sections of the site believed to have been contaminated with human flesh and blood are covered.”<\/p>\n
At the scene of the blast, at least 20 high-capacity buses belonging to the Federal Capital Territory administration bore tell tale signs of the attack.<\/p>\n
Also destroyed by the attack were several private and commercial vehicles, and scores cores of commercial motorcycles.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, life has gradually returned to Nyanya, Karu and Mararaba.<\/p>\n
After Monday’s attack, apparently out of concern for their safety, most shop owners on the very busy Nyanya and Mararaba ends of the Abuja- Keffi expressway locked up their business premises.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
