Top Nigerian online newspaper, DailyPost has commenced immediate legal
\naction against naij.com over piracy of its several news reports. DailyPost
\nhad in a statement released on Sunday night lamented over naij.com\u2019s
\nincessant use of its hard earned materials without permission, stating
\nthat it is unfortunately criminal and an unforgiven act for naij.com to
\ntiptoe into its website and obtain information it knows little or nothing
\nabout, claiming to be the owner of the said stolen and plagiarized news
\nwith all sassiness.<\/p>\n
The news organization further affirmed that it was a sad development that
\na news website like Naij.com, that is supposed to know the legal
\nimplication of plagiarism to continue to lift its materials WORD FOR WORD.
\nIt said that the only additional work noticed in the copied version of
\nseveral of its original stories uncovered on Naij.com was the removal of
\nDailyPost from the text.<\/p>\n
A search on naij.com showed that more than 80 news items were copied over
\nthe last few weeks.<\/p>\n
DailyPost believes that the brazen stealing of its content by naij.com
\nmust henceforth stop as it has this time around refused to ignore the
\ncontinuous act of intellectual property abuse. The online newspaper said
\nit will stop just at nothing but to drag Naij.com to a competent court of
\nlaw for a proper interpretation on what the law says on content piracy.<\/p>\n
In obvious angst, DailyPost Content Editor, Adoyi Ali who reacted to the
\ndevelopment said, \u2018\u2019it\u2019s shameful that Naij.com could not change even a
\nline in the stories we exclusively reported\u201d<\/p>\n
Adoyi said such act was not only criminal but debasing. He said the
\ndevelopment further revealed that that Naij.com was slothfully relying on
\nalready made news for survival. He said \u2018\u2019we are determined and not
\nemotionally swayed to look away when things are gradually taking the most
\nunfortunate dimension. The question is where is the sanity we use our
\nmedium to preach, if we all continue in this plagiarism madness? \u2018\u2019<\/p>\n
Already, all legal processes have commenced, as DailyPost\u2019s lawyer is
\nalready putting all proofs together to legally nail naij.com.<\/p>\n
The company said it would have ignored the very act of impunity, but for
\nposterity, and for the sake of what journalism means in a country that is
\npresently struggling to bail itself out of some deep decadence, it will
\nfight the battle to finish.<\/p>\n
