First lady Patience Jonathan on Monday expressed displeasure at the
\nabsence of Hajiya Nana Shettima, wife of the Borno State Governor, at a
\nsecond enlarged stakeholders\u2019 meeting on the abducted schoolgirls.<\/p>\n
Shettima was absent at the first meeting, which Jonathan convened on
\nFriday in Abuja to seek clarification on the number of girls involved.<\/p>\n
Jonathan postponed the meeting to Sunday to enable Shettima, parents of
\nthe abducted girls, the school\u2019s security guard and two of the girls that
\nescaped, among others, attend the meeting.<\/p>\n
However, the first lady burst into tears after she took a roll call and
\ndiscovered that the governor\u2019s wife and those she invited were absent.<\/p>\n
She kept on repeating: \u201dThere is God in everything we are doing. There is
\nGod\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n
The first lady had requested Shettima to chair the committee constituted
\non Friday to seek clarification to the conflicting issues on the exact
\nnumber of missing girls.<\/p>\n
Jonathan, however, expressed shock that the Borno State Government
\nappeared not to be taking the issue serious.<\/p>\n
She said before the kidnapping and the killing started in Borno State, she
\nassured Shettima of her support, but was surprised that after such
\nincidence, Shettima did not come to see her.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter the incidence, I waited for her, she did not come. I sent for her,
\nshe came.<\/p>\n
\u201cI asked questions, no answer. I asked her to come with the principal and
\nparents: she did not turn up till today. To our greatest surprise, she
\nsent a commissioner.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe next thing I saw was women demonstrating. No woman will fold her
\nhands while her house is on fire. She is the mother of Borno.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe is the mother of these children, I am their grandmother. She should
\nbe more concerned and come to her grandma.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe police, army, WAEC, government officials came with a few of their own
\nbut no parent was present to tell us their child was kidnapped or among
\nthose who escaped.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe mother of Borno is not concerned about what is happening, her
\nchildren are involved,\u201d Jonathan said.<\/p>\n
She urged Nigerian women not to take to the streets till they get to the
\nroot of the matter.<\/p>\n
She said, \u201cI don\u2019t want anybody to reply or abuse me on the pages of
\nnewspaper. It is because we are pained and crying, that is why I am doing
\nso.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy should I cry more than the bereaved? The world will ask me a question
\nif I do. If after today, Borno people say we should not help them, don\u2019t
\ngo to the street to demonstrate.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou are playing games. Don\u2019t use schoolchildren and women for
\ndemonstration again. Keep it to Borno, let it end there. Until you people
