The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) on Saturday said all elements
\nof the Boko Haram terrorists group would be stamped out within three
\nmonths.<\/p>\n
Gov. Babangida Aliyu, Chairman of the forum, said this in an address at a
\njoint Northern States Governors\/United States investors\u2019 summit held in
\nAbuja.<\/p>\n
\u201cContrary to insinuations that leaders in the region failed to openly
\ncondemn the rascality of the terrorists, we have instead worked subtly to
\nsee to the end of the insurgents.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe coming of the United States\u2019 army to rescue the abducted Chibok
\nschool girls was as a result of the meeting the northern governors held
\nwith the American Government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe 19 governors that make up this forum would continue to condemn the
\ninvasion of the north and we are happy with the Federal Government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe group is equally happy with United States, Britain, France, China and
\nCanada which have offered support to tackle the insurgents,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a communiqu\u00e9 issued at the end of the summit, said the summit
\nwas organised to accelerate the socioeconomic development of the north and
\nthe country as a whole.<\/p>\n
It said that, the symposium organised by the United States Institute of
\nPeace (USIP) and NSGF between March 17 and March 19 in Washington laid the
\nfoundation for the summit and partnership with investors.<\/p>\n
The communiqu\u00e9, which was signed Gov. Aliyu, said strengthening relations
\nbetween the entire northern governors through the summit was the right
\nrecipe for the development of the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe summit addresses the issues of concern to the people of the region,
\nand particularly the challenges faced by some states presently plagued by
\npoverty, youth unemployment and insurgency.
\n\u201cIt seeks to act as vehicle through which the NSGF attracts partnership
\nwith the international investment community and aid agencies to assist in
\nrebuilding, reconstructing and rehabilitating the north,\u2019\u2019 it said.<\/p>\n
According to the communiqu\u00e9, the courage and confidence reposed in the
\nregion in the face of enormous insecurity challenges in the country was
\nwell-known.<\/p>\n
It said the summit would complement the gains of the just concluded World
\nEconomic Forum (WEF) for Africa and the far-reaching initiatives of the
\nFederal Government to develop the country.<\/p>\n
It, called on all investors to have confidence in the opportunities that
\nabound in the region, adding that the deficit found in region should be a
\nmotivating factor to invest.<\/p>\n
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the summit was organised by
\nNSGF in conjunction with the Nigerian Embassy in Washington.
\nGeneral Electric (GE), Brambles, USAID, Milhouse Engineering, Manchester
\nTrade, World Bank, Blumber Grains and African World Export were some of
\nthe companies that attended the summit.<\/p>\n
All the 19 governors made presentations highlighting areas of respective
\nstates\u2019 potentials and available opportunities for investors to note.
