Finance Minister and Coordinator of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
\nhas decried the attempt to misrepresent her views over the abducted Chibok
\ngirls.<\/p>\n
Okonjo-Iweala in a statement by her spokesperson, Mr. Paul Nwabuiku said
\nwhile the Minister shares in the pains being suffered by parents of the
\nabducted girls, there is a “distortion of her comment to a reporter from
\nABC News of the US” to mean she was “tired” of talking about the abducted
\ngirls.<\/p>\n
The statement reads:<\/p>\n
“It has come to our attention that there are attempts to misrepresent the
\nposition of CME on the unfortunate abduction of the Chibok girls.<\/p>\n
“The online campaign is based on the lie that the minister is \u201ctired\u201d of
\ntalking about the abducted girls. This is a distortion of her comments to
\na reporter from ABC News of the US.<\/p>\n
“Such a distortion is contrary to numerous and consistent comments by the
\nminister which underscore her pain and concern over the issue.<\/p>\n
“The minister had previously stated during WEF that \u201cAs a mother of four
\nchildren, including a daughter, I cannot imagine the agony the parents of
\nthese children must be experiencing. We understand the anger and sadness
\nthat is shared by Nigerians at home and abroad.\u201d<\/p>\n
“She had also tweeted: \u201cOur commitment to #BringBackOurGirls does not end
\nwith #WEFAfrica. It’ll continue. It is our task. We must do it until we
\nbring them back!\u201d<\/p>\n
“The minister is certainly NOT tired of an issue which has been a
\nnightmare to families involved and all Nigerians for the past one month.
\nShe urges that we all focus on the girls themselves and how we bring them
\nback.<\/p>\n
