line-height: 15.456px; text-align: justify;\">A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has dragged the PDP spokesman, Olisa Metuh, and the party to court over alleged defamatory statements.<\/p>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1400633956594_3179\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"margin: 6px 0px 0px; display: inline; color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial,; font-size: 14.399999618530273px; line-height: 15.455999374389648px;\">\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1400633956594_3178\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1400633956594_3177\" style=\"margin: 6px 0px 0px; display: inline; color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial,; font-size: 14.399999618530273px; line-height: 15.455999374389648px;\">\u00a0He filed a N1.5bn libel suit before an Abuja High Court in Gudu, over\u00a0\u00a0an \u00a0statements \u00a0issued on behalf of the PDP,that \u00a0linked him and the All Progressives Congress to Boko Haram insurgency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nIn another publication, el-Rufai said Metuh claimed that he (el-Rufai) collected N5bn as consultancy fee from the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Lamido Sanusi.<br \/>\nMetuh was said to have made the claims in separate publications in the March 17 and 23 editions of This Day Newspaper.<br \/>\nEl-Rufai, who is also the Deputy National Secretary of APC, in his suit filed on April 2, 2014, joined the newspaper as the third defendant.<br \/>\nThe suit was tagged CV\/1424\/14.<br \/>\nThe former minister claimed that the publications had done him irreparable injury and damage to his hard-earned reputation.<br \/>\nHe quoted one of the publication as saying, \u201cSpecifically PDP cited the instance of an APC chieftain, ostensibly the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nasir el-Rufai, who collected N5bn for consultancy fees provided to the central bank and another N1.5bn diverted to APC to enable it open offices across the federation\u201d.<br \/>\nThe former minister also quoted the publication of March 23 as being \u201cboldly captioned as, \u2018In a daring move, PDP says Buhari, el-Rufai, know more about B\u2019Haram\u2019\u201d.<br \/>\nHe claimed that the publications were \u201cin furtherance of the defendants\u2019 campaign of calumny\u201d against him.<br \/>\nHis statement of claim read in part,\u201dThe plaintiff avers that the publication has done irreparable injury and damage to his hard-earned reputation by portraying him as a corrupt, money laundering, reckless, lawless, greedy and unscrupulous public figure who illegally collected N5bn as consultancy fees.\u201d<br \/>\nHe is specifically seeking an order awarding N1bn as general damages against Metuh and PDP.<br \/>\nHe is seeking another order awarding additional N500m as general damages jointly and severally against all the three defendants, including This Day newspaper.<br \/>\nHe seeking the award for \u201cthe injury, embarrassment and distress suffered by the plaitiff in respect of the loss of reputation and goodwill as a result of the malicious, unwarranted and defamatory utterance against the person of the plaintiff.\u201d<br \/>\nHe is also seeking an order declaring that he was \u201cdeservingly entitled to a written apology from the defendants, published with the same prominence as the offending publications\u201d.<br \/>\nHe also wants the court to give an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from further defaming him.<br \/>\nThe defendants are by the plaintiff\u2019s writ of summon, \u201ccommanded\u201d to within eight days of being served with the writ, enter appearance in the suit.<br
