Nigeria\u2019s Defense Headquarters today said \u00a0a prominent political leader from one of the northeast states \u00a0is sponsoring \u201ca renewed campaign aimed at attracting international\u00a0condemnation and\u00a0indictment of\u00a0the Nigerian military and its operations in the Northern part of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement signed by its spokesman, Gen Chris Olukolade did not mention who this political big wig is, but fingers are already pointing at Adamawa state \u00a0Governor, Murtala Nyako and his Borno counterpart, Shettima.<\/p>\n
The statement \u00a0titled \u00a0 \u201cNew Plot Against Operations of Nigerian Military,\u201d \u00a0campaign \u201cis to rely heavily on doctored and falsified audio visual\u00a0materials, some of which are already trending in the social media,\u201d adding that the alleged plot \u201cis to be coordinated and funded by a prominent political leader whose state is presently under the State of\u00a0Emergency.\u201d<\/p>\n
The military \u00a0claimed that the details of the plot against the Nigerian military was \u201calready being fine-tuned by a group of media practitioners\u201d and would be \u201cpresented for the final ratification and funding by the political figure.\u201d<\/p>\n
The military also \u00a0alleged that the plot \u201cis expected to forcefully whip up sentiments of genocide allegedly targeted against a particular religious group. The planners of this multi-media crusade also hope to use it to gain some mileage in the drive to secure international attention as they have not achieved this sufficiently despite previous efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement stated that the so-called plot against the military was \u201calso meant to reinforce the ongoing media campaign against the military,\u201d adding that it \u201cwas adopted as an alternative by those who are bent on politicizing the ongoing counter terrorists operations in the northern part of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the military \u00a0a newspaper \u201clast week published some of the doctored pictures which the Defense Headquarters instantly repudiated, pointing out that they do not represent activities or operations of the Nigerian military.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u00a0Defense Headquarters added \u00a0\u201cwishes to reiterate its rejection of pictures and video footages from unverifiable sources claiming to reflect activities or so called\u00a0atrocities purportedly perpetrated by Nigerian security forces.\u201d His statement added: \u201cThey do not reflect or depict the true state of affairs or operations of Nigerian military or any of the security forces. The public is advised to watch out and not allow themselves to be hoodwinked by these acts of infamy orchestrated by this desperate group.\u201d<\/p>\n
