Equatorial Guinea and Sao Tome and Pincipe have joined other nations pledging support to help Nigeria battle the menace of insurgency and Boko Haram ravaging the country.<\/p>\n
The two countries’ Ambassador to Nigeria Job Obiang Esono Mbengono and Antonio Correia disclosed in a separate audience with the President of the Senate Senator David Mark at the weekend that their countries are worried about the developments in Nigeria and are ready to enlist in the battle against terrorism.<\/p>\n
Specifically, Mbengono of Equitorial Guineea said his government sympathized with Nigeria on the unabating terrorism claiming lives and property and assured ” we are ready to collaborate with Nigeria to defeat the terrorists.<\/p>\n
” Nigeria is a very strategic and important country in Africa. We share a lot of things in common in the gulf of Guinea. The continent cannot afford the continuous crisis and violence in Nigeria. Something must be done urgently to salvage the situation”.<\/p>\n
The Ambassador said his country has a lot to learn from Nigeria pointing out that Guinea’s National legislature which was unicameral\u00a0 has been made a bicameral legislature like Nigeria’s, courtesy of the 2011 referendum which endorsed the new arrangement.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Sao Tome’s envoy to Nigeria,\u00a0\u00a0 Correia brought the solidarity of his country to support Nigeria in the battle against terrorism even as he pleaded with the abductors of Chibok school girls to release them.<\/p>\n
Responding, Senator Mark thanked the visiting envoys for the solidarity with the government and people of Nigeria\u00a0 pointing out that ” we as a people are traumatized with the situation and we are doing every thing humanly possible to rescue our girls.”<\/p>\n
The Senate President stated that Nigeria remains steadfast in spite of the challenges and will do every thing to ensure peace and stability of the country where all citizens would feel safe, secured and protected under the law.<\/p>\n
