Mr. Emefiele was still on duty at Zenith as at last Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"entryContainer\" style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px; line-height: 15px; border: 0px; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 10px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; color: #444444;\">\n<div style=\"padding: 0px  6px  0px  0px; margin: 0px; line-height: normal; border: 0px; font-family: serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px  0px  15px; line-height: 1.5em; border: 0px; font-family: Lato,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;\">A visit to Zenith last Friday showed that some of his personal staff were being mobilised on Friday to leave for Abuja in preparation for his assumption of office today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px  0px  15px; line-height: 1.5em; border: 0px; font-family: Lato,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;\">Mr. Emefiele, during his confirmation hearing at the Senate said CBN, under him shall vigorously pursue a development banking model, DBM, in addition to working hard to achieve the core mandate of monetary and price stability.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px  0px  15px; line-height: 1.5em; border: 0px; font-family: Lato,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;\">Emefiele had told the senators that DBM is a model that has been tried and tested in different jurisdictions in the world.<br style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px; line-height: 1.5em;\" \/> He had told the senators that \u201cin fact, in some of the frontiers and emerging markets in the world, we have seen development banking used as a tool for achieving economic growth, development and industrialisation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px  0px  15px; line-height: 1.5em; border: 0px; font-family: Lato,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;\">Until last Friday, Emefiele was the Group Managing Director, Zenith Bank Plc, a position he has held since August 2010.<br style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px; line-height: 1.5em;\" \/>He was Deputy Managing Director of the bank, having been appointed into that position in 2001.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px  0px  15px; line-height: 1.5em; border: 0px; font-family: Lato,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;\">Emefiele had been on the bank\u2019s management team since inception and had held various management positions in the bank, including serving as the bank\u2019s Executive Director in charge of Corporate Banking, Treasury, Financial Control and Strategic Planning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px  0px  15px; line-height: 1.5em; border: 0px; font-family: Lato,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;\">Before his appointment as Group Managing Director, Emefiele was directly responsible for all the group\u2019s local subsidiaries, treasury and correspondent banking and multilateral, conglomerates and private banking.<br style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px; line-height: 1.5em;\" \/> He also had responsibilities for direct supervision of majority of the bank\u2019s branches in Lagos and Northern Nigeria.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Godwin Emefiele assumes office today as the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor after the expiration of the tenure of Lamido Sanusi on May 31.
