{"id":27441,"date":"2014-06-03T13:56:13","date_gmt":"2014-06-03T12:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=27441"},"modified":"2014-06-03T13:57:01","modified_gmt":"2014-06-03T12:57:01","slug":"un-to-honour-amaechi-on-june-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/un-to-honour-amaechi-on-june-3\/","title":{"rendered":"UN to honour Amaechi on June 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, is to receive an award from the Associated Fellowship of the United Nations Institute for<br \/>\nTraining &amp; Research in Geneva Switzerland.<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: inline; color: #141823; font-size: 14.4px; line-height: 15.456px; text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"margin: 0px  0px  6px;\">The award is for his contributions in the Education sector, which placed Rivers State as the best state in Nigeria with 21st century educational facilities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 6px  0px;\">It is also for his outstanding contributions to United Nations Institute for Training and Research, UNITAR, Programmes in Nigeria, and for promoting overall United Nations activities in the South-South geo-political zone of the country by the provision of an outstanding facility that can house over 15 UN agencies in Port Harcourt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 6px  0px;\">According to UNITAR, Governor Amaechi is \u201crecognized for his leadership in governance, infrastructural development, socio- economic development and distributional equity and justice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 6px  0px;\">On his nomination for the award, an elated Amaechi said, \u201cAs we enter the last lap of our administration, this award is a call to finish strong as it reassures us that we are on the right path\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 6px  0px;\">Besides the recognition the award bestows on the Amaechi administration, it has positioned Rivers State on the global map of United Nation Offices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 6px  0px;\">\u201cIn the longer term, the presence of UNITAR would attract more UN<br \/>\nagencies to Rivers State\u201d, says Larry Boms, UNITAR\u2019s country director.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 6px  0px;\">At the moment, there are five United Nations agencies in Rivers State; housing these agencies in Port Harcourt would open up job opportunities for Rivers indigenes to get into international civil service, Boms said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 6px  0px;\">The UNITAR award entitles Governor Amaechi to a UN Certificate that bestows Diplomatic Immunity while on UN assignments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 6px  0px;\">Previous recipients of the fellowship have been mainly drawn from Professors Emeritus with huge academic records in research in global governance, security, social justice, development, and environment preservation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 6px  0px;\">The event will be held at offices of the UNASG\/UNITAR Executive Director, as the UN does not encourage ceremonies outside the General Assembly, Security Council and other globalized conferences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 6px  0px;\">However, this time the event will be low key because of the abduction of the Chibok school girls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 6px  0px;\">Port Harcourt is currently serving as the UESCO-World Capital city, 2014; and recently, Rivers State agreed to partner UNESCO to train over 30,000 women and girls in the areas of ICT, skill acquisition and vocational training.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, is to receive an award from the Associated Fellowship of the United Nations Institute for Training &amp; Research in Geneva Switzerland.
