The authorities of Kano state Police Command in northern Nigeria have claimed to have arrested some of those connected with March 18, 2013 multiple bomb-blast at the popular Nnew Road Luxury Park in the free community of Sabon Gari which killed over a score and destroyed about five luxury vehicles and other properties running into billions of Naira.<\/p>\n
Pointblanknews.com reports that about a year ago, suicide bombers invaded the Park with a gulf car, targeting fully loaded buses.<\/p>\n
Many both travelers and workers at the park also sustained first degree injuries; but the Police on Thursday in Kano said they have made headway in their quest to unravel the mystery surrounding the attack.<\/p>\n
Speaking to journalists at the Bompai Police headquarters, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adenrele Shinaba said that the police have made a breakthrough as some suspects in connection to the bomb-blast have been arrested and are helping the police to track-down those at large.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you recall last year, there was bomb-blast at New Road Park, Sabon Gari, Kano. The Command is getting a breakthrough. Some suspects are in custody and some exhibits have been recovered. Investigation is on top gear, after that, we will be able to furnish you with our discoveries; and as such, we shall get to the root of the matter as we won\u2019t rest on our oars to unravel the dastardly act,\u201d Shinaba told reporters.<\/p>\n
Also, the Police recovered Impoverished Explosive Devices (IEDs) in a joint operation with the Department of State Services (DSS) and the soldiers at Medile Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano when primed explosives of three fabricated air conditioner coolants, cans of drinks made of hand grenades, two fabricated fire extinguisher containers built with electronic switch, four pieces of tear-gas cartridges, two gas cylinders as well as\u00a0 three fabricated Turkey oil containers with electric components built to be detonated by remotes were promptly and safely\u00a0 defused by the police anti-bomb squad.<\/p>\n
Shinaba explained that if not for the prompt information by members of the public, the IEDs if allowed to have exploded, Kano city would have been devastated.<\/p>\n
However, the Police were able to foil the vandalization of an MTN facilities in Bebeji area of the state where hoodlums at about 2:30 a.m. had successfully removed 39 batteries that were concealed inside baskets made for storing tomatoes, adding that breaking tools and a J5 vehicle were recovered and the suspects were able to escape on sighting the Police.<\/p>\n
The Police boss further stated that the Command also arrested three hardened car snatchers and recovered six vehicles and a tricycle, adding that the suspects are undergoing discreet investigation with a view to arrest their fleeing gang members.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on information, a combined team of the Police Special Anti-robbery Squad and the famous Ali Kwara Vigilante team on patrol along Zaria Road pursued a Toyota Camry with registration number FH 449 ABC with two occupants.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe occupants opened fire and were vigorously chased. They abandoned the car and ran into a near-by bush with injuries. On a search, 20 live ammunitions of AK 47, 7.62mm were recovered, but no arrest was made,\u201d Shinaba stated.<\/p>\n
He added that, \u201cthe raid of black spots in Kano will continue, we are not sleeping; and as such, incidences of armed robbery and rape cases have reduced drastically.
