A comprehensive package to creating a clement environment for the private
\nsector to thrive and driving investment in technology and
\nindustrialization has been unveiled by Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta
\nUduaghan for the global investment community.<\/p>\n
And he chose the largest concentration of private fund managers worldwide
\nin Cologne, Germany where he led a delegation from Delta State to unfold
\nthe one stop shop investment incentive.<\/p>\n
A five-year tax holiday, duty draw back for export-oriented concerns and
\ntariff incentives on value chain enterprises top the log of the carrot
\nUduaghan dangled before the Cologne Forum, host of the 2014 African
\nFinance and Investment Forum (AFIF).<\/p>\n
In his presentation, \u201cInvestment Opportunities to Enhance Economic and
\nDevelopment\u201d, the Delta State governor listed other incentives as land
\nacquisition concessions, reduced stamp duty charges, permits and license
\ncost cutting and timeliness and liaising with federal regulatory agencies
\nto facilitate operational licensing procedures.<\/p>\n
Explaining that industrialization remains the key driver of his Delta
\nBeyond Oil initiative, Uduaghan said the private sector is leading the
\nestablishment of industries in the state through harnessing the economic
\npotentials of the immediate environment and leveraging on\u00a0 the state\u2019s
\ncomparative advantage.<\/p>\n
With a population of 5.1 million and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of
\n$24.88 billion in 2013 as well as huge investments in physical
\ninfrastructure development, security and human capital development,
\nUduaghan said Delta State offers an exceptional and profitable haven for
\ninvestors.
\nThree special economic zones targeting diverse areas have been set up with
\nthe private sector leading their development. These are the Koko\/Ogidigben
\nFree Trade Zone, Warri Industrial Business Park and Asaba ICT Park.<\/p>\n
Using the Delta Beyond Oil initiative, Uduaghan identified five key
\ninvestment opportunities in Delta State. They include power,
\nmanufacturing, agriculture, infrastructure and tourism. He emphasized that
\nDelta State is the most viable destination for investors, a situation
\nboosted by its status as a leading oil and gas producer, a coastal state
\nwith access to four seaports, having a young, educated and active
\npopulation and continuous investment in security.<\/p>\n
Under his administration, government institutions, processes and systems
\nhave been strengthened in the areas of public financial management, policy
\nand strategy, public sector and knowledge management. He said structures
\nhave also been set up for the enforcement of the Fiscal Responsibility Act
\nand the Public Procurement Act.<\/p>\n
Members of the Delta State delegation include Chike C. Ogeah, Commissioner
\nfor Information; Afam Obiago, Economic Adviser to the Governor and Ben
\nIgo, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Economic Planning.<\/p>\n
