Gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram has attacked the Deeper Life Church in Okene, Kogi state, in North-central Nigeria, and killed no fewer than 16 worshippers.<\/p>\n
Eyewitnesses say the gunmen stormed the church this evening with sophisticated weapons and shot everyone in sight. Loud cries could be heard as the trapped worshippers scampered in many directions to escape from the sporadic shootings of the vicious gunmen.<\/p>\n
According to a source, the worshipers were taken by surprise as the invaders blocked every available exit which prevented them from escaping.<\/p>\n
The attack, which is coming two weeks after an account officer of the Federal College of Education Okene was abducted and killed in cold blood, has sent fear down the spines of many residents.<\/p>\n
The Kogi state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Simon Ile, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the command was yet to be briefed on the incident. He said that the state police command was awaiting official briefing from\u00a0\u00a0 the divisional police officer in charge of the
\narea.<\/p>\n
Ile further said the police would go after the perpetrators of this dastardly act in order to bring them to justice.<\/p>\n
It was not be immediately ascertained how many worshipers were in the church as at the time of the attack.<\/p>\n
It will be recalled that some suicide bombers had attempted to attack the Living Faith Church on Lagos road, in Okene last month before they were prevented by the heavy presence of security operatives.<\/p>\n
