Apparently referring to leaders of the All progressive Congress, APC, who
\nmight be warming up to challenge his defeat in court, out going governor
\nof Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has said he would not challenge the
\nresult of the June 21 governorship election in the state.<\/p>\n
Fayemi, who made the disclosure when he received the governor-elect, Mr
\nAyo Fayose, in his office in Ado Ekiti, said \u201cI will not challenge the
\nresult of the election because I am not desperate to remain in office.<\/p>\n
\u201cElection must not be seen as a do or die affair.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said Fayose\u2019s victory had assisted in \u201cstrengthen and deepening\u201d
\ndemocracy, especially in Ekiti State and the country at large.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cElection by its nature generate tension and hot exchange of
\nwords, but to me, once the whole exercise is over, all those involved
\nshould take such with calmness and stop all acrimonious.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is my belief that we must all start imbibing attitude that will make
\nus avoid activities that can threaten our peaceful co-existence. We must
\nalso avoid the bad loser syndrome.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe we need to build this democracy to a mature end, rather than
\npull it down.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fayemi promised not to be distracted by the defeat, saying he would
\ncontinue to work for the people of the state until Oct. 15 when he would
\nhand over to Fayose.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Fayose had commended the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by
\nFayemi, describing his acceptance of defeat without question as \u201cquite
\nun-African\u201d.<\/p>\n
Fayose called on Nigerian politicians to emulate the good virtues of Fayemi.<\/p>\n
