President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan left Abuja this afternoon for Malabo,
\nEquatorial Guinea to participate in the 23rd Ordinary Session of the
\nAfrican Union\u2019s Summit of Heads of State and Government.<\/p>\n
In keeping with the African Union\u2019s declaration of 2014 as the Year of
\nAgriculture and Food Security, discussions at the summit will, among other
\nthings, focus on the evolution and implementation of fresh strategies and
\nmeasures to improve agricultural production and food security in the
\ncontinent.<\/p>\n
President Jonathan and other African leaders participating in the Summit
\nwill also deliberate on the appointment of Judges of the African Court of
\nJustice, the appointment of Judges of the African Human Rights Court of
\nJustice and the appointment of the President and Vice President of the
\nPan-African University.<\/p>\n
The African Heads of State and Government will also consider and adopt the
\ndecisions and recommendations of the 25th Regular Session of the African
\nUnion\u2019s Executive Board and the Declarations of the 23rd Ordinary Session
\nof the Conference of the Union.<\/p>\n
President Jonathan who was accompanied by the First Lady, Dame Patience
\nJonathan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali, the
\nMinister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi\u00a0 Adesina , the Minister of
\nIndustries, Trade and Investment, Dr. Olusegun Aganga, the Minister of
\nWater Resources,\u00a0 Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe and the Minister of Health, Prof.
\nOnyebuchi Chukwu is expected back in Abuja at the conclusion of the Summit
