President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has again condemned the Abuja bomb blast that left no fewer than 21 persons dead and several others injured even as he pleaded with perpetrators to sheathe their swords .<\/p>\n
Reacting to yesterday’s bomb bast in the Wuse area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,\u00a0 Senator Mark lamented that in spite of peaceful entreaties the killings and destruction of property continued unabated.<\/p>\n
He restated his appeal that rather than take laws into their hands, Nigerians who are disenchanted with the system\u00a0 for whatever reason should bring their grievances to the attention of government noting that these wanton destruction of lives and property is not doing our nation any good.<\/p>\n
An angry Senator Mark stated : ” Honestly, this is not our way of life. We are a people who value life. We cherish one another. This new trend of mass murder is alien to us. We must stand up against this and make Nigeria safe and better again.<\/p>\n
“There are more than enough channels for any body or group of persons to seek redress including the law courts . Certainly , resort to killing, violence or destruction of property is not one of them.”<\/p>\n
Senator Mark told the security operatives not to be deterred by the development but be strengthened to face the challenges of protecting lives and property in the land.<\/p>\n
Similarly,\u00a0 the Senate President enjoined Nigerians to be security conscious at all times pointing out that ” the business of security is no longer the sole mandate of uniform men and women alone but all citizens.”<\/p>\n
He mourned the death of the Managing Editor, New Telegraph, Suleiman Bisalla, describing it as “very painful.”<\/p>\n
“Bisalla was an easy-going and resourceful reporter while covering the National Assembly for the Plateau State owned Standard Newspaper. He devoted his time and energy to incisive parliamentary reporting and this quickened his steps to higher offices in Daily Trust and lately New Telegraph,” he further said.<\/p>\n
Senator Mark also sympathized with the families of other victims who lost their lives in the bomb blast just as he prayed for those who received various degrees of injury to have a quick recovery.<\/p>\n
