EDO State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to replicate the party’s victory in last weekend governorship election in Ekiti State in the 2015 general election and 2016 governorship election in the state.<\/p>\n
State chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, who stated this on Thursday in Benin while receiving hundreds of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state, also accused the state government of intolerance to the opposition parties in the state.<\/p>\n
He added that the state government has committed more than N60 billion in its erosion control project, without any antecedent succour to flooding in the state.<\/p>\n
Addressing the decampees, Orbih said the conditions that made the people of Ekiti State to vote out the APC exist in Ekiti, pointing out that the APC government in Edo State has impoverished the state and its people.<\/p>\n
“Governor Fayemi introduced competency test for teachers in that state, he was hostile to the workers and introduced oppressive taxation. You will agree with me that the same thing is happening in Edo State today. Starting from 2015, Edo people will speak with one voice and reject a party that has humilated and oppressed them,” Orbih stated.<\/p>\n
On the crisis in the State House of Assembly, he said the state government should be blamed, saying it has been very intolerant to opposing views in the state.<\/p>\n
He said, “When one of our members, Victor Edoror, who was elected on the ticket of the PDP decided to defect from the party to the APC in exercise of his freedom of movement and association, we did not contest. But when four APC lawmakers left the APC for the PDP, the governor gave an order to the speaker of the House to suspend them\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we are saying is that we must allow democracy to thrive in Edo State because the governor of the state is there today, he will not be there tomorrow because governments come and go, but democracy will remain forever. My appeal to the state government is that they should allow people exercise their democratic rights to decide the parties they wants to belong to\u201d.<\/p>\n
Receiving the defectors led by a former Vice-Chairman of Ikpoba\/Okha local government council, Mr. Jeffery Omorodion, Chief Orbih salute the courage of the defectors for taking the right decision to quit their former party for the PDP.<\/p>\n
He insisted that the PDP in the state will give equal opportunities to all aspirants that want to vie for political offices in the state just as he added that the party\u2019s internal democratic credentials was the best in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
